the non Games Workshop box set harder or
0:07
more complicated than a standard Games
0:09
Workshop box here I mean painting any
0:11
kind of box set can be quite daunting
0:12
especially if it's this one where you've
0:13
got two opposing forces and a whole
0:15
Hostess to go with it now the great
0:17
thing about Workshop stuff is you've got
0:19
lots of law that you can follow there's
0:21
the website with lots of 360s you can
0:23
check but it's also all made up so you
0:25
can actually do whatever you want with
0:26
those killer schemes where something a
0:27
bit more like Star Wars has a lot more
0:30
law to it a lot more Canon and chances
0:31
are if you're going to spend money on
0:32
this you're probably going to want to
0:33
tie in the color schemes to the TV shows
0:35
now as a historical painter I do that I
0:38
tend to research stuff getting all the
0:40
books and make sure I'm doing this
0:41
regimen or this battle or whatever and
0:43
Star Wars I don't think is any different
0:46
to that so I guess all I need to do now
0:47
is get my research hat on watch some TV
0:50
shows what a chore but the bigger
0:52
question is can I paint this lock in
0:55
less than a day now after everything's
0:57
built the first thing I'm going to do is
0:58
start off with the Republic forces
0:59
they're going to move on to the
1:00
separatist forces and then I'm going to
1:02
do the scenery and then base everything
1:03
at the end now I'm going to start off
1:05
first with Rex and the 501st clones and
1:08
the first I'm going to do is have these
1:09
undercoated with white spray any white
1:11
would do it's not really a problem just
1:12
make sure it's a nice white now I'm
1:14
going to pick out all the black details
1:15
with black Legion including the Blaster
1:17
now don't worry about splodges we can
1:19
kind of sort that out in a mo it's just
1:21
a lot easier to get those black sections
1:22
painted now because you can tie it with
1:24
some white before you do any other
1:25
elements and if you did get any black on
1:27
the white Now's the Time to tidy up with
1:28
a white paint next I'm going to add some
1:30
definition to the white and for this I'm
1:31
going to be using some thin down sole
1:33
light gray so that's 50 50 wash and
1:35
water or medium if you've got it and
1:37
what this is going to do it's going to
1:39
add a bit more definition to that armor
1:40
and don't worry if you get on the black
1:41
once it's dry you're not actually going
1:43
to see it so you don't have to keep
1:44
tidying back up with black tell add some
1:46
extra punch to those edges I'm just
1:47
going to do a light dry brush of white
1:57
then it's time to pick out any weapons
1:59
with gunmetal it might seem bright to
2:00
start off with but we're going to solve
2:02
that in a moment or two now to knock
2:03
those guns back a bit I'm going to get
2:04
some thin down black Legion and apply
2:06
that over the Weaponry you could use
2:08
normal if you have that as well but
2:10
thinning down black Legion works just as
2:11
well there we are you could just leave
2:13
your clones at this point and maybe add
2:14
some chipping to him which we'll show
2:16
you in a moment or two uh if you're not
2:18
confident about doing any markings this
2:19
is perfect your cleanse look fine they
2:21
look like clones so don't worry about
2:22
turning them into a particular regimen
2:24
then to make your actual clones and
2:26
wrecks look like the 50 First we're
2:28
going to apply some storm fiend to the
2:29
armor as well as the shoulder pads and
2:31
the pauldron now you've got some
2:32
markings down like Rex's arms and a
2:35
little bit on his legs again if you make
2:36
any mistakes here don't worry you can
2:38
tie it with some white in a moment or
2:39
two I'm gonna do some sponging which can
2:41
actually solve a lot of those problems
2:42
if you do make any mistakes but just
2:44
take your time and have the paint
2:46
slightly thinned down as well because
2:47
you can always add a second coat if you
2:48
need to
2:57
foreign

[Music]
3:10
on the markings now I'm just going to do
3:13
this quite gently across those armor
3:15
bits I'm not going to do on the polding
3:16
because it won't need it but just around
3:17
his legs and if you're again getting
3:19
some areas that are hard to reach just
3:21
get a brush and just do like the odd
3:22
little scuff and the Little Nick here
3:24
and there and then to finish off to make
3:26
them look a bit more battle damage I'm
3:27
gonna get some Ash Gray and lightly
3:28
sponge that onto now if you chose not to
3:31
do any markings on your clone troopers
3:32
apply this now if you want to make them
3:34
look a bit more battle worn and again if
3:36
there's any hard to reach areas just get
3:38
a brush and just do a couple little
3:39
flicks and nicks in there as well

5:36

5:38
painting phase to save 10 off your first
5:41
purchase of a website or domain next up
5:45
is Boca tan and her death watch or night
5:47
owls uh whichever you prefer
5:49
so we're going to start first with an
5:51
undercoating mechanical standard gray
5:52
that will just give us a nice time for
5:53
all that under clothing then I'm just
5:55
going to lightly dry brush with Sky gray
5:56
all over and I'm going to apply it a
5:58
little bit heavier to where the smoke is
6:00
and I just want to build up a couple of
6:01
times and that's going to just solve our
6:03
smoke effect without much effort
6:05
then I'm going to pick out any silver
6:06
details such as the armor and the Westar
6:08
blasters with gunmetal
6:20
any leather details such as the belt and
6:22
light straps and apply some tan Earth to
6:25
those then I'm going to pick out all the
6:26
blue details so pretty much all the
6:28
armor and I'll be using stormfiend for
6:29
this now it's quite a nice runny paint
6:31
and this is going to kind of base coat
6:33
ready for when we layer up later on now
6:34
I'm going to apply some white to beau's
6:36
face she's got like a semi-circle kind
6:38
of design again don't worry if you're
6:39
getting the like the little um isolates
6:42
because we can tie that back up with
6:43
black in a bit anyway and you might want
6:44
to do a couple of coats of white here
6:46
now what I'm going to do is get a little
6:47
bit of thin down storm themed I'm just
6:49
going to drop that into the helmet
6:50
design the great thing about bow is the
6:53
actual design is sculpted in so what I'm
6:55
going to do is drop it in and then wipe
6:56
away my finger and if you need to
6:58
probably on one or two little areas you
7:00
can just tight it with a bit of white
7:01
but actually just thinning down that
7:03
blue is going to save you sandwich
7:04
effort pick out any black details with
7:06
black Legion so again you can just sort
7:08
out a face mask and then I'm going to
7:10
apply noon oil or thin down black lesion
7:11
whichever you prefer over the metals the
7:13
cloth
7:14
and the leather with that wash dry I'm
7:16
now just going to layer back up that
7:17
blue armor with medium blue this is just
7:19
to add more punch to the armor it's not
7:21
really highlighted it's just layering
7:22
those raised areas then I'm going to
7:24
lightly dry rest and white on the flame
7:25
effects
7:27
and also paint this on the chest armor
7:29
where they've got those little flicky
7:30
lights and to get the model up to a
7:32
tabletop level I'm just going to apply a
7:34
little bit of Imperial fist to the flame
7:35
and the lights on the armor and then you
7:37
can leave them at this and start playing
7:38
games with them now to add some extra
7:40
love to your mandalorians I'm just going
7:41
to tidy up a few details and add a few
7:43
highlights now the first thing I'm going
7:45
to do here is get some gunmetal and just
7:46
tidy up those silver details especially
7:48
on the armor just a little bit don't go
7:50
all the way over I'm just going around
7:51
the Race part they're going to get some
7:53
Dew cap blue and then just highlight the
7:55
blue armor and then I'll add a few
7:56
little Nicks and flicks in there so it
7:58
looks like battle damage
8:11
there we are with a little bit of extra
8:12
love our mandalorians are pretty much
8:14
done all they need to do now is be based
8:15
so after watching all of the Clone Wars
8:17
TV shows the rebels and all the movies
8:19
I've got a good grasp of what the armor
8:22
looks like what the character looked
8:23
like but getting that reference can be
8:24
quite hard sometimes
8:26
um there's plenty of resource out there
8:27
looking on like search engines and stuff
8:29
but one of the things I found most
8:30
valuable is I like collecting some of
8:32
the sixth scale figures and they have
8:35
such a resource because you can get that
8:37
Bob on with their designs and the color
8:39
schemes so hot toys are very very
8:41
adamant that these are the correct
8:43
colors and these are the correct designs
8:44
so I've been looking at those as
8:46
reference there's a few like YouTubers
8:47
out there that do stuff uh Justin
8:49
Collette was pretty good and he does
8:51
360s so for all the characters what I
8:53
was doing was watching some of these
8:54
YouTube videos pausing when they're on
8:56
the back on the side on the front just
8:57
to get a bit more of an idea of how the
9:00
actual uniforms looked in comparison to
9:02
the real ones from the TV show if you
9:04
like so a good source of reference and
9:06
really helped me in the process of doing
9:08
this video because there's not a lot of
9:09
ospread books out there that start Star
9:11
Wars figures
9:12
so I'm starting to soak it off with a
9:14
great undercoat and again like the
9:16
previous mandalorians I'm just going to
9:17
lightly dry brush Sky gray over again
9:19
this is going to add like as a
9:20
pre-highlight ready for when I start
9:21
applying other colors over so for all
9:23
the blue clothing so that's that our
9:25
actual robes and the trousers and apply
9:27
some storm feed over that again some of
9:29
those bits of Sky gray will show through
9:31
as our highlight now I'm going to pick
9:32
out any silver sections with gunmetal
9:34
using those 16 scale videos on YouTube
9:36
really helped at this point because I
9:38
wasn't entirely sure what bits with
9:39
silver what bits weren't even looking at
9:41
the box packaging you know sometimes
9:43
there's a bit of room for interpretation
9:44
but I valued that resource so much at
9:48
this point if any black or leather
9:50
details I'm going to use some black
9:51
Legion I'm going to coat over all of
9:52
those with noon oil once dry I'm going
9:54
to pick out a Soaker skin using light
9:56
rust it's almost perfect for Ahsoka skin
9:58
you just need to do a couple of thin
9:59
coats of it just to build up that nice
10:01
orangey skin tone and apply any white to
10:03
the lightsaber as well as a soca's leku
10:06
as well if you don't know what leku is
10:07
that's the weird sort of bits going down
10:10
from her head the hair
10:13
tendrils whatever now I'm going to shade
10:15
over with toggle rage shade just for a
10:17
bit of depth next it was to apply thin
10:18
down storm fiend to the lack of designs
10:20
now start off quite thin because it will
10:22
run into those cracks because it is
10:23
actually all sculpted in and then you
10:24
just do a second coat after once you've
10:26
got like the Border sorted out and if
10:28
you made any mistakes get some white and
10:30
tidy back up those as well and then to
10:31
get a tabletop ready I'm just going to
10:33
get some froster and apply that over the
10:34
blade and you can pretty much start
10:36
playing games with Ahsoka at this point
10:37
now to get to the next level we're gonna
10:39
add some highlights and again I'm just
10:41
going to tight up the skin as I always
10:42
like to do at this point and I'm just
10:44
going to use light rust again so that's
10:45
that almost like a layer stroke
10:47
highlight then there's an extra
10:48
highlight I'm going to get some Cork and
10:50
just pick out those extremities like the
10:52
nose the cheeks then highlight any black
10:54
with Ash Gray
10:57
I'm going to use medium blue again here
10:59
I'm just going to pick out those
11:00
highlights on the robes
11:03
then I'm going to apply a thin line of
11:05
white to the blade using the edge of the
11:06
brush also if you're feeling more
11:08
confident apply some white to ashoka's
11:10
face markings as well again if you're
11:12
not so sure don't have to do it or you
11:13
can just get some thin down white and
11:15
just drop it into those little details
11:16
then just to finish off that lightsaber
11:18
I'm just going to heavily thin down some
11:19
Frost Art and then just apply that over
11:22
what that would do is just knock the
11:23
white back a little bit put it back into
11:25
the blue Spectrum
11:27
foreign
11:40
Skywalker again I'm starting this guy
11:42
off in Gray and then I'm going to
11:44
lightly dry brush Sky gray over the top
11:46
of that again let's just get those
11:47
highlights out in the early stages then
11:49
we get some saigle brown here because
11:51
he's wearing a lot of brown leather and
11:53
I'll base coat that all over pretty much
11:55
the model
12:00
I'm gonna pick out his trousers with
12:02
tanith then I'm going to apply some
12:03
slightly thin down black Legion to his
12:05
tunic or the main robe and also his
12:07
gloves
12:10
then it's a matter of picking any metal
12:12
details a good metal
12:14
then I'm going to coat noon oil or again
12:16
thin down black Legion whichever you
12:17
prefer all over now I'm going to get
12:19
some skin painted on this guy for this
12:21
I'm going to be using Cork and again a
12:23
couple of thin coats will help build
12:24
that up and just in the recesses drop
12:26
some toggle red shade in there as well
12:30
and all I'm going to do now is get his
12:31
lightsaber picked out with white and
12:33
again coat over that with some Frost
12:34
tile after and this guy is pretty much
12:36
ready to play games with however if you
12:37
want to add some extra steps stay tuned
12:39
because what we're going to do now is
12:40
start highlighting and layering those
12:42
details up so first of all I'm going to
12:44
layer up the trousers with some tan
12:46
Earth
12:48
and also use that same color to
12:50
highlight the dark brown shirt and some
12:53
little bits on his boots as well down on
12:55
a thin down cycle Brown and use as a
12:57
glaze for a shirt and robe it's all it's
13:00
going to do is just knock back those
13:01
highlights now when doing a glaze what
13:04
you're intend to do is it's the
13:05
consistency of milk so you thinning it
13:06
down kind of like a contrast but you're
13:09
not just pulling all over and hoping it
13:10
goes in the cracks you'd kind of neatly
13:12
lay on it over everything so what it
13:13
does is it slightly darkens down the
13:14
recesses a bit more but also just knocks
13:16
back those highlights it gives you a bit
13:18
more of a nice General transition so if
13:20
your highlights are too high then it
13:22
will knock them back if you shades are
13:23
too dark it will bring them a little bit
13:25
lighter as well then I'm going to
13:26
highlight up any black details of Ash
13:28
Gray turn up his skin especially the
13:30
raised areas with some Cork and then
13:32
pick out those extreme highlights using
13:33
a little bit of radiant flesh now I'm
13:35
going to thin down a little bit more
13:36
cork here because I think some of those
13:38
highlights are a bit too much again as I
13:39
was explaining previously with the
13:41
glazes I'm just going to apply a neat
13:42
glaze of cork across his face just to
13:45
help knock back some of those highlights
13:46
and also bring in some of those Shades a
13:48
bit like as well and like a Soaker what
13:50
we're going to do now is paint Anakin's
13:51
lightsaber exactly the same way so just
13:53
follow that on how to do blue Lifesavers
13:54
so all our Republic force is now done
13:57
um really pleased them at first you know
13:59
when you're at tabletop ready kind of
14:01
levels are a bit like all right I want
14:02
to get those highlights on a little bit
14:03
more love because they deserve a little
14:05
bit more love but the purpose of doing
14:07
this video to have two different levels
14:08
is you can play some games and then you
14:09
can
14:10
I'm really pleased with the results so
14:12
what I'm going to now do is move on to
14:14
the separatists and get them up to the
14:15
same point as well so first up is going
14:17
to be the droids and the Droid Commander
14:19
now started with Andrew just on all the
14:21
battle droids and I did the Commander in
14:22
Gray you'll also notice all the battle
14:24
droids are based separately as well just
14:26
makes it a lot easier to paint them as
14:28
opposed to three being on one base
14:29
before we begin doing any Shades or dry
14:31
brushing I'm just going to get the
14:32
commander base coated with some dark
14:34
green gray so it's kind of the same
14:36
point really that I wanted to be that
14:38
the battle droids are at and next up is
14:40
to apply toggle raid shade over
14:42
everything on the models that includes
14:43
the commander because then they're all
14:45
shaded and ready for some dry brushing
14:47
this will also act as a nice subtle
14:49
weathering effect as well now for the
14:51
droids and the commander I'm going to
14:52
get some light Earth and I'm just going
14:54
to gently dry brush this all over this
14:56
is going to add definition to the armor
14:57
it's going to give it a bit of a
14:58
roughness as well so it looks like it's
15:00
got more of a war-torn kind of
15:01
appearance to it
15:07
then we're gonna get some gunmetal and
15:09
apply that to like The Blasters as well
15:10
as any joints they've got the Aerials
15:12
hip joints again check any reference
15:15
you've got as to what those might be now
15:17
using normal straight from the pot and
15:18
applies to the Blaster and any other
15:20
metallic details the Blaster you might
15:22
want to do a second coat after you've
15:23
done the first just to make it look a
15:25
little bit darker because they are quite
15:26
almost black metallics like uracai armor
15:31
foreign
15:33
next up we're going to get some dirty
15:35
red I'm going to apply this to those
15:37
battle joists to make them security
15:38
joints now you don't have to do this you
15:39
can just leave them as standard battle
15:40
droids but I just thought that red looks
15:42
quite nice and I can see why the Box
15:43
set's been done like that because you've
15:45
kind of got a blue versus red Vibe going
15:47
between the two forces which actually
15:48
works really nicely so just take your
15:51
time look at the reference a couple of
15:53
thin down coats and you should be fine
15:54
and a little bit of normal just can be
15:55
applied over that red just to darken it
15:57
down a bit and then we're going to get
15:58
some Ash Gray and then sponge that on
16:00
for a bit more battle damage so all that
16:02
chipping done these models are now
16:04
pretty much done they're finished all
16:05
that he's doing is basing I'm not going
16:07
to do any extra steps because they've
16:08
kind of had that all done to them so
16:10
these are ready to play with
16:12
[Music]
16:14
thank you
16:17
[Music]
16:29
next up is gar Saxon and the super
16:31
Commandos again starting from a grounder
16:33
coat any gray would do I like to use
16:35
mechanical standard gray like the tone
16:36
of it then I'm going to lightly dry
16:37
brush Sky gray over like I've done with
16:39
most of the models in this set then I
16:40
get some thin down black Legion and
16:42
apply that over the cloth so this is
16:44
going to go over the whole model once
16:46
that's dry I'm going to do a second coat
16:47
or more neater coat on the armor and
16:49
this will just break those two sections
16:51
up as different materials so you've got
16:52
like a solid black for the armor very
16:55
dark gray for the clothing then any
16:57
silver details I'm going to get some
16:58
gunmetal and pick those out most of the
17:00
West Star blasters then it's a use of
17:02
dirty red for the red armor areas again
17:04
a couple of coats of this
17:05
once that's dry get some normal coat all
17:08
over mainly for the metals the armor and
17:10
the cloth now I'm going to lightly dry
17:12
with some white onto those flame effects
17:13
and also glass saxon's Shield as well
17:15
this is a light driver so just take your
17:17
time Build It Up also if you've got any
17:18
chest armor lights and gar saxon's visor
17:21
you might want to pick those out in
17:23
white as well a couple of coats
17:25
then apply some Imperial fist to the
17:27
flame the lights and gar saxon's visor
17:30
it looks really nice with a yellow visor
17:32
I really like it
17:37
then I'm gonna finish off with some
17:38
Frost Art onto gas action Shield as well
17:40
to give it that kind of like glowing
17:42
energy Shield vibe and these models are
17:44
now ready at a point to be used on the
17:46
table top to play some games with
17:49
however you want to take them to the
17:50
next level then stay tuned first up I'm
17:53
going to highlight up the armor with
17:54
some Ash Gray again take your time do
17:57
some little Nicks and flicks in there
17:58
for a bit of battle damage then I'm
17:59
going to highlight that really dark gray
18:01
if you like cloth with some Sky gray as
18:03
well for the red arm I'm going to tie
18:04
that back up with dirty red again adding
18:06
some Nicks and flicks here and there
18:08
then just do a little Edge highlight
18:09
here and there of some light rust don't
18:12
forget to use on the jet packs as well
18:13
there we are gar Saxon and his super
18:15
Commandos are done
18:22
next up is mall now this model is pretty
18:25
much black but he's got some nice red
18:27
Accents in there as well so first of all
18:28
we're going to start with a gray
18:29
undercoat as before we're going to
18:31
lightly dry brush some Sky gray all over
18:33
and apply some thin down black Legion
18:34
over the cloth and then a second coat
18:36
for his tunic because he's got a
18:38
slightly darker tunic than he has to
18:40
like his sleeves and his legs and in
18:42
metal areas or silver areas I'm going to
18:43
pick those out with gunmetal and for the
18:45
red areas what I'm now going to do is
18:46
get some dirty red and base coat the
18:48
lightsaber and also his skin now I'm
18:50
going to do it a bit more thinned on his
18:51
skin so it'll run into those cracks
18:52
because these models again have all
18:54
those markings sculpted in and I'll wipe
18:57
my finger across it so some of that
18:58
black will show through just take your
18:59
time you can always tidy back up with a
19:01
little bit of black if you need to and
19:02
then I'm going to apply some norno over
19:03
the metal as the arm and the cloth try
19:05
and avoid the skin if you can because it
19:07
might go into that red and make it a bit
19:08
darker and just undo everything you've
19:10
just done and Darth Maul is ready to be
19:12
put on the tabletop to play some games
19:14
with now I'm going to move on to some
19:15
extra steps for more because he deserves
19:17
him I'm going to start first by
19:18
highlighting that black tunic with Ash
19:20
Gray I'm going to pick out a highlight
19:22
on the trousers with Sky gray we're very
19:24
much falling to the same way we've done
19:25
the super Commandos here as well now I'm
19:27
just going to glaze a little bit black
19:28
just to knock back those highlights
19:30
because they can look a bit too light so
19:32
it just subtly takes them back down a
19:34
tone and to finish off I'm just going to
19:35
highlight the lightsaber with a little
19:37
bit white and again if you have made a
19:38
few mistakes here and there on the red
19:39
just get some dirty red and just tidy up
19:41
some of those raised areas and mall is
19:44
finished
19:50
[Music]
19:53
last of all is a SARS Ventress now we're
19:55
starting off with a white undercoat the
19:57
first I'm going to do is get some dirty
19:58
Violet and apply that all over
20:00
start off just do a thinner coat just
20:02
add a bit of water to it and then in
20:03
some of the deeper recesses certainly
20:05
around her wrappings on her arms in a
20:06
waist you can add a second coat if you
20:09
need to then after that once it's dry
20:10
I'm going to do a light dry brush of
20:12
white this is more just to pick out
20:13
those wrappings on our arms and also put
20:15
a little bit of concentration around the
20:17
back of her head on that Cranium and
20:18
around her cheeks and nose as well I'm
20:20
gonna get some amethyst blue for the
20:21
robes
20:22
I'm just gonna do a couple of coats this
20:24
I'm also going to pick out the boots as
20:25
well as the top of this as well take
20:27
your time because it's over a wire
20:28
undercoat you might want to do a couple
20:30
of thin coats then we use some thin down
20:32
Frost Art for the belt it's kind of like
20:34
got a weird like light Bluey gray down
20:36
to it frost style was perfect has been
20:38
thinned down then any silver details
20:40
we'll pick those out with gunmetal then
20:41
the design on the tabard I'm going to
20:43
use light Earth for that just take your
20:45
time and if you're making mistakes tied
20:46
it back up with the previous colors then
20:47
apply some normal all over the metals
20:49
and the cloth
20:52
and then I'm just going to pick out a
20:53
lightsaber with dirty red when the
20:55
lightsaber done a Sarge Ventress is now
20:57
ready to play games with
20:59
stay tuned for some extra steps now the
21:02
first thing I'm going to do here for
21:02
those extra steps is just bring out that
21:04
skin a bit more with some layers and
21:06
some highlights of white so I'm just
21:08
going to get a little bit of thin down
21:09
wire and start picking out that Cranium
21:11
on the head and also just emphasize like
21:13
the knuckles extremities with a
21:15
highlight of white as well
21:20
now at this point what I'm going to do
21:23
is because I've done some tidying up I'm
21:24
going to get some amethyst blue and I
21:25
thin it down and I use this for the
21:27
markings because if I make any mistakes
21:29
I've just tied up with some white I can
21:30
just get a bit white in there and
21:32
re-tied it back up because it's the same
21:33
kind of tone of white it's not got a
21:35
shade or too much of a shade getting in
21:36
the way then I'm just going to get a few
21:38
thin coats of Judy Violet for the skin
21:39
just in those deeper recesses around the
21:42
nose cheeks eyes
21:43
and also some on the wrappings as well
21:45
where it just needs a bit more
21:46
definition and now what I'm going to do
21:48
is tied up those robes with a little bit
21:49
of amethyst blue again that what we're
21:51
going to do here is just punch out that
21:52
purple a little bit more because the
21:54
shade will have darkened it down a bit
21:55
so you get a bit more depth here and
21:56
there and it kind of acts as our first
21:58
highlight or layer
22:01
and then what we're going to do now
22:02
they've got a very nice pattern on the
22:04
sarge ventress's dress on the box art
22:08
that takes a lot of effort so I'm going
22:09
to find a quick way of doing that and
22:10
what I'm going to do is get a sponge and
22:12
I'm just going to start sponging that
22:13
onto the dress and for this I'm using
22:15
lilac just going to take my time just
22:18
neatly and gently just dab it on like
22:20
you would be chipping clones armor or
22:22
all of droids or whatever just take your
22:24
time don't matter if you're making
22:25
mistakes you can always tidy back up
22:26
with a little bit of amethyst blue if
22:27
you need to and also once I've done the
22:29
sponging I'm just going to get a
22:30
highlight of lilac here and there on
22:32
some of those edges as well just to add
22:34
to the fold of the cloth if some of
22:35
those lilac tones are a bit too bright
22:36
what I'm going to do here is just glaze
22:38
over with a bit of amethyst blue again
22:39
you're thinning it down to the
22:41
consistency of the contrast and just
22:42
layering neatly layering what I'll do is
22:44
just knock it back a bit and then you
22:46
can always add some extra sponge in for
22:47
a bit more depth if you need to using
22:49
the line look take as long as you want
22:51
or just leave it as one coat and there
22:54
we are a Sarge Ventress is now done and
22:56
ready to play games with those extra
22:57
steps
22:58
so I've now got the Republic and the
23:00
separatists done all in all I think the
23:03
Republic guards are about 10 hours the
23:06
bad is the separatists that is whichever
23:08
you prefer didn't take as long so I'll
23:10
say about seven or eight hours
23:12
um in my head I was like aiming for 24
23:14
hours here so I've got loads of time to
23:16
play with but the scenery is not going
23:18
to take that long at all in fact it's
23:20
probably the quickest part and I'm
23:22
really looking forward to I'm going to
23:23
do the old two-tone spray thing here
23:25
that was very one color do it just
23:26
another but I'm very much under the time
23:29
where I want to be for this which is
23:31
great so as I said I'm going to
23:33
undercoat the scenery and first of all
23:34
I'm going to use some gray so I'm going
23:35
to coat over everything we're great on
23:36
the buildings and then once that's dry
23:38
you can do it while it's still wet if
23:39
you want to I'm just going to dust over
23:41
with Sandra dust and what this is going
23:43
to do is just give that 210 effect a lot
23:45
that gray especially near the base of
23:46
the buildings it's going to stay there
23:48
but you get a lot of recesses so you
23:49
don't have to do that much work for the
23:51
Gantry is in crates what I'm going to do
23:52
here is spray those black and then Dust
23:54
over with some Chrome silver after
23:57
then very much leave them at that I
23:58
might add a shade or two but that's it
24:00
now you will have some metal details on
24:02
the building so what I'm going to do
24:03
here is just heavily over brush those
24:05
with a little bit of gunmetal so it's
24:07
kind of like base coating but I'm not
24:08
going to go mad and then I'm just going
24:10
to apply some toggle raid shade over to
24:11
all the metal details so some of the
24:13
recesses in some place you can coat all
24:16
over they go mad uh the largest Gantry I
24:19
probably didn't go super mad and go
24:20
underneath it just did it on the top
24:22
and don't forget to do the crates
24:24
[Music]
24:28
so back to the buildings we're now going
24:31
to highlight them up with a dry brush
24:32
it's going to take my time work my way
24:34
through all the buildings and I'm going
24:35
to dry brush them up with light Earth in
24:37
some places if you've not dry brushed or
24:40
wiped enough of the dry brush away you
24:41
get like the odd scuff that's fine
24:43
because it looks a bit like weathering
24:44
or a bit of chipping or a bit of damage
24:46
so don't worry too much we can solve
24:48
that later with a little bit of chipping
24:49
as well like I said if you have lots of
24:51
areas the way you've scuffled your dry
24:53
brush get some Ash Gray and what we'll
24:55
now do is sponge that on like we did
24:57
with the clone troopers like we did with
24:59
the droids
25:00
[Music]
25:03
I'm gonna pick out the Contours I'm
25:04
gonna go for a really straightforward
25:05
consoles here I could spend age doing
25:06
lots of different colors on the buttons
25:07
I'm going to pick them out with white a
25:10
couple of coats on the screens Maybe
25:12
and they're going to get some
25:13
fluorescent green and then just apply
25:15
that over a couple of thin coats and you
25:17
just got like bright consoles and bright
25:18
buttons really simple really
25:20
straightforward
25:21
[Music]
25:28
to get all our models based what we're
25:31
going to start off first is pick out any
25:33
stone work with Ash Gray doesn't matter
25:34
if you undercoating them Sandy dust or
25:37
gray or white everything's going to get
25:38
a coat of Ash Gray and then any area
25:40
that's got a bit of dirt on it and apply
25:42
a little bit muddy ground some of those
25:43
areas that are just all flagstones I'm
25:46
gonna put a little bit muddy ground
25:47
there as well if you wanted to just so
25:48
it looks like it's kicked on I'm going
25:50
to apply toggle raid shade all over so
25:52
that's over the flag stones and the dirt
25:53
and on a dry brush lightly over
25:55
everything with a little bit of light
25:57
Earth just to tie it all together and
25:59
then finish off with I know a gray rim
26:03
not brown not black gray I'm going to
26:05
use ash gray for this
26:07
and that will help tie the entire box
26:08
set together and I think all in all
26:11
quite quick and easy to do it looks nice
26:12
so the box set is finished honestly I'm
26:15
super pleased with the results the good
26:16
guys took a little bit longer I think
26:18
than the separatists that might have
26:19
just been like time I don't know it
26:21
might have felt like it went on longer
26:23
because it was the first set I did
26:25
um but I'm super pleased with the
26:26
results uh the scene was a breeze that
26:28
doing the 210 undercoat just sped
26:30
everything up so much and it's great for
26:32
just getting stuff on the table top you
26:34
could add more time as time goes on like
26:35
do some arabesh markings on it or do
26:37
some like other colors it's entirely up
26:38
to you but for just getting stuff done
26:40
in like less than 24 hours it's a really
26:42
quick and efficient way of getting your
26:43
scenery done now there are a few things
26:45
I do differently if I was to do this
26:47
again
26:48
for the video I try to minimize the
26:50
amount of paints I've got I also don't
26:52
want to over complicate things with lots
26:53
of mixes but in hindsight what I
26:55
probably should have done was done a mix
26:56
with the grays for the super Commandos
26:58
and more because I think
26:59
using I had a dark gray and a light gray
27:02
and I needed something in the middle
27:03
just for the robes just to fill a little
27:05
bit more of a subtle transition and I
27:07
think that was like the biggest thing
27:08
about I did a glazed and oxen back but
27:10
if I were to go back I'd probably do a
27:12
mix of like ash gray with Sky gray and
27:14
doing mid-tone some of those things as
27:16
well that's just like a hindsight thing
27:17
just wanted to minimize the colors and
27:19
not over complicated too much but
27:21
you live and learn when you've done
27:22
stuff that's that's the way the world I
27:25
had a bit of a wobble because I thought
27:27
at one point during this I was like I'm
27:28
not very good at painting Emma but I
27:30
gotta say
27:31
the models themselves lend really well
27:33
to dry brush and washing and the fact
27:36
that they've got the markings put on
27:38
sculpted in has made it so much easier
27:40
you'd have to to a certain degree it
27:42
could be a bit of a nightmare because
27:43
you think oh hang on I'm gonna paint
27:45
this marking but actually once you've
27:47
got some paint on it it's fine it looks
27:49
fine so all that aside is painting a
27:52
non-games workshop box set harder than
27:54
painting The Games Workshop boxer no
27:55
it's not there's a few tactics you have
27:58
to do different if you have a place you
27:59
have to look you you can get away with
28:01
making up if you want to but if you want
28:02
to make a lot of the shows a little bit
28:04
of research is involved but not much
28:05
because the chore is watching some TV
28:07
shows great awesome uh I really enjoyed
28:10
this project I hope there's lots of
28:11
insightful things that you guys have
28:12
found from watching it as well and all
