hello I'm Patrick and I'm Jeff and for all the people who've joined us since peachy's arrival to the channel
0:06
I'm sorry if you're disappointed that it's us too but we may for the next show promise to shave our entire heads to
0:12
make you feel more here's an inspiration [Music]
0:19
right then so tonight we're just going to have a bit of a chat and do something that neither of us done before yeah we
0:26
just pick probably one of the most complicated villagers in the gene steel cult Army is we're going to paint a
0:31
couple of a couple of acolyte hybrids aren't we I've never painted a face before
0:37
oh really oh wow I think we picked a really nice easy one for a mutated human to do as a
0:44
face yeah I mean like pretty much I paint exclusively on camera these days
0:49
because I struggle to uh to find the time so it's bound to happen but anyway and every other miniature that I painted
0:56
I've gone like helmet yeah helmet a strong tactical choice of the person
1:01
that doesn't want to paint it yes absolutely I mean it's like why would they have the helmet stuff in the fighting it's just so stupid so yeah so
1:08
we're gonna and it's funny because I own a shed load of them from faith and damnations yeah charity Army which was
1:15
very kind of them to give me so I've got loads of them but I've never had to put paint to brush to miniature and do one
1:22
myself so it's going to be a little bit of a uh it's going to be a little bit of a challenge figure in the right time they go so um
1:29
go easy on us because like literally uh it's our first try at it and we'll see what happens don't go easy on us just
1:35
yeah straight in well yeah you normally do no they do on the shorts
1:43
but anyway yeah should we get started yeah let's do
2:02
thank you

3:28
yeah this morning with like the blanket that was colors and diarrhea and it was like I took outside and took it all off
3:33
and I was just like a zombie fingers and I thought pre-kids I'd have been yes
3:39
give me hands now I'm just like yeah right up to the albums and stuff don't give a right now just my
3:47
dignity to be precise
3:54
heresy right we're keeping that in and now we're having a little pause for my
4:00
painting yes indeed um so then it's been six months
4:09
since we started yeah six months and a few days 22nd of October I am right aren't I May June July August September
4:16
October six months seems longer feels like a lifetime time flies when you're stuck in this
4:23
tiny room with Jeff I can only imagine and feel sorry for my
4:28
customers on a daily basis to be fair um but so it was not that long ago we stood
4:36
outside chatting and you'd left you were in your death rows of leaving Games Workshop
4:42
yeah and we're saying it was a shame because you really enjoyed
4:48
The Hobby and the Aesthetics of it and you liked filming the Miniatures and yeah and all the rest of it and my sadly
4:56
my film review podcast had come to an end because my good pal Gavin in case you're watching High gov I've sadly
5:02
moved back to Scotland yeah and um we both sort of ended up top nothing where we both looked at each other and went oh
5:08
I can film and Like Toy Soldiers
5:15
I'll just and then it was a marriage made in the
5:20
heaven slash help ever since really yeah and it's um and we potted on didn't we we potted on
5:26
yeah and we you know we we went through ups and downs with it and goods and bads and some videos were generally very well
5:33
received other ones were utterly hated with the vengeance
5:38
I would expect nothing less no communities absolutely right and um yeah um
5:45
and then we mainly have a more successful run with shorts yeah the
5:50
shorts are doing pretty well it's I think YouTuber I don't know pushing them yeah
5:55
um I feel like the first ones that we sort of did which was just kind of like clips from the painting videos with some
6:02
kind of like chill music over the top of them yeah um hadn't necessarily been done before no
6:10
um so I think they were quite quite well well received not necessarily the
6:15
painting um but I think like with the shorts it's quite there's something that we've become conscious of over time is I think
6:23
you have to be really sort of obliviously say this is what
6:30
we're doing this is who it's aimed at all in like a minute yeah um is is because say like even like I
6:37
mean you say we we get I get comments on my painting and I'll be like well I'm crapper painting So this makes sense and
6:43
I I chat people and and it was quite interesting because some people would be like oh I would do it this way and I'm like oh cool that's actually interesting
6:49
and someone got this is garbage um and I'd be like what's wrong with it help help me improve yeah yeah like
6:55
there was a comment about the iron Warrior um and he was like it's it's too
7:02
metallic it just looks like a half painted pewter model that was great though yeah
7:08
talk about not knowing what you're talking about if everything and and it's kind of like well the iron Warriors are
7:14
kind of metallic um so and and he was saying like and you
7:19
know Everyone's entitled to their opinion of course um and so so it'll engage with people and you get a bit of hate and and or
7:27
like someone who put a comment out there and be like this is the worst thing I've ever seen and you should quit it and I'd
7:32
be like how could I improve and they'd be like oh sorry okay yeah so actually um but I immediately felt better when I
7:38
watched a um Rich gray video Yeah and and and he
7:44
said that amongst men that he is yeah yeah one how many Slayer swords and and
7:49
someone someone in one of his videos like he'd said oh in a previous video somebody said that I'm glazing wrong
7:56
or that I don't know how to glaze and I'm like right okay I just feel honored to be able to watch one of his videos
8:01
never mind start giving me hate about how he's doing stuff and it's like you know were you alive when you know people
8:07
set foot on the moon it's like I was alive when Richard Gray was making YouTube videos but um it's
8:14
if if people will say that to Richard Gray then then like I immediately just
8:20
felt better yeah um about about everything well it just makes you know that it makes you wear
8:26
whether they're right or wrong everyone has an opinion and a lot of people like to make sure you know what they are
8:32
don't they yeah for the you know for better and worse really yeah and I think you know that which still became
8:38
massively apparent when peachy joins us and we started putting out the shorts of of his long form videos and people were
8:46
hating what he did well I mean it was interesting like I I I feel now because
8:51
I like you know we've taken peachy into the fold and people can comment on his videos yeah
8:56
um and they say that uh the the Navy breaches the video the full video really
9:03
well received people people like it um like it's it's a a different way of
9:09
painting from like a tutorial point of view in that it's like you can't be messy you
9:16
clean up afterwards and you bring it all together at the end yeah and it's like you can leave it here or you can take it further
9:22
um and the leave it here short has done pretty well I think currently at the time recording is is nearly 90 000 views
9:29
on the short cool um and like it gets a lot of crap
9:35
um oh yeah so and and I I feel from an editing point of view like going through this process
9:42
me um I feel responsible for that in a way because like we've made peaches made a
9:51
video that's set like it's aimed at anyone like someone could buy the box
9:57
and go I have no idea what to do with this watch the video you could paint your kill team probably
10:03
not as fast as peachy because he's a wizard okay I feel guilty making the thumbnails and
10:11
it's like paint crew in 15 minutes because he literally painted them 15 minutes each and it's like it's not fair
10:17
I mean I I think because we we timed the whole thing he actually painted them in
10:22
like 12 and a half minutes but I put 15 because I just thought that sounded too unrealistic it sounds like I bragged in
10:29
there um so yeah like it's it's a shame in a way that
10:34
um that now with with like with there's a bunch of shorts that we've already recorded and I just haven't edited yet
10:41
but um I think you know moving forwards we absolutely will have to and somebody
10:46
commented on one of them and they were like there's loads of comments on here that are like really unwarranted yeah but when you say
10:53
something is speed painters you know you might have Marco speed paint something any and that might be I painted this in
11:01
three hours which is speed painting which yeah and and that quality of his work is outstanding so so like speed
11:08
painting gets thrown around quite a lot and I think we need to specifically say hey here's a nice easy beginner level
11:15
tutorial to get your Miniatures from plastic to tabletop because this is a
11:21
problem so speed painting means a whole range of different things to different people yeah that's it yeah and yeah and
11:26
I think as well and and if we're being honest about it as well I think people
11:32
when it comes to painting for this hobby I've been and I mean in the nicest possible way a bit spoiled because
11:39
they've seen constantly phenomenal great painters yeah you know Richard Gray is phenomenal infernal brush being Dave
11:46
Perryman yeah it's very good the guys over at cold for paint knock out some fantastic work oh yeah yeah yeah all all
11:54
terrarium is really good there's a whole host of great painters and I think you've got a little bit spoiled because
11:59
you just a lot of people just used to seeing extremely good painting all the
12:05
time but what you know a lot of the time they're only painting single miniature yeah because it's a condensed video you
12:11
don't know how long they've been painting for yeah and you just get used to seeing what are like mini
12:17
masterpieces yeah and then you've got peachy come along who's going I'm not doing your masterpieces I'm doing you
12:24
the core of what this whole Bloom and hobby is about it yeah yeah guys on the table and then let's get the other boxer
12:30
guys on the table and then the they're going to shoot around I'll just paint that too yeah and get you going yeah and then not only that but does it
12:37
in two stages you know here's enough to get you playing and if you want to revisit them yeah here's the way to
12:42
finish them or just take it through to that and all in one go yeah yeah and I think um
12:47
I think the way we mean you paint well I mean you blunder our way through Miniatures yeah
12:53
you know some people enjoy that because they go oh I feel like I'm watching stuff that's around my shorter level
12:59
yeah and then other people just hate us because we are producing masterpieces
13:04
one of my favorite comments was why is the painting on this channel so bad
13:10
because you know it's like you did you know it's just it's this thing I've just sort of gone you know we're showing you
13:18
what we do and and you know and a lot of people paint and I don't wish we sound insulting but
13:23
a lot of people paint roughly our level yeah yeah and you know or like have have the time to um like this the jeans
13:31
dealer you know we what you come over on an evening yeah my girlfriend usually goes to bed at 11 and
13:37
I don't want to like keep her up all night with us going uh called your Spades so we we've got a couple of hours
13:45
yeah you know it's yeah by the time we set up and all of this amazing equipment because obviously you use it at other
13:51
jobs your day job and then it has to come in and then change its role into this and
13:56
then to catch that up and then get going and then you know go painting and then go home and it's it's you know you know
14:03
we're talking wrong the long-term aim is like you know we be able to help a day work and do it all day but you know at
14:09
the moment that's not the case and yeah and I think um think what people forget is you Richard
14:14
Gray's out there they have their equipment and they sit down and they do I'll do two hours today two hours
14:19
tomorrow I'll do a bit here a bit there and then produce put them together and it's a stunning piece away can you go
14:25
yeah you know trying to show you the realistic World battle yeah like I feel like it's it's
14:33
um you know I think there's a place for every level of painting in the hobby I think so
14:38
um I think that it's a shame that some of the videos especially peaches
14:44
um get get the abuse that they have but I think there's a learning experience I think it's as like the editor of it it's
14:52
my responsibility to sort of Not Having learned from it make
14:58
sure everybody's aware of what they're getting into immediately rather than because I think you know it's 50 50 like
15:04
people shouldn't be seen us yeah um like they're responsible for that I'm
15:10
responsible for letting them know what they're about to watch yeah and it is a
15:15
balancing act like I've got to take some response responsibility for it as well um yeah I know what you mean and but the
15:21
thing is as well isn't that you know how how where do you does your explanation of like oh yeah yeah this would be so
15:28
much fun you'll be like okay we're gonna speed paint a custodies you get through the explanation spray gold and
15:37
like they can't they can't have disclaimers on that you know I would never make a video going please don't
15:42
say nice naughty things about us yeah so nicely you know you can't do that stupid like I mean we're gonna get haters of
15:49
course you are um I think I think with peachy coming involved and more light being put on the videos it's quite an
15:56
interesting experience um which I'm sure lots of other creators have gone through as well yeah absolutely right and I think you know
16:03
and I think the thing is is that peachy does I think I always said this when when I interviewed him he's he's this
16:08
great he's the the great middle Gap uh middle pointers and you know the zoster sort of paint within our ability and
16:16
within our Limited and and then peachy who can turn up and do
16:22
stuff better than us and seems to be able to have some weird time machine those pocket West time stands still for the
16:29
rest of the world while you paint something yeah and it gets it all sort of no time at all yeah but you know we
16:34
know peachy can knock out amazing pieces of wear oh massively but he knows to
16:39
container to what he's doing for yeah I mean the playability I remember when I was at GW and uh he
16:48
would do his painting videos like the YouTube painting videos and um because it's you know battle ready
16:54
put your base coats on wash it um and then parade ready put some highlights on
17:00
um it was kind of like is that all he does like I was like they look great um but you know seeing him sort of
17:06
limited in that structure and all that sort of stuff and I remember looking at his jeans dealer Army and he painted pin
17:13
up Gene Steeler models on the side of all of his tanks and I was just like
17:20
Jesus holy deviant like it was it was insane it was just like and and then it
17:26
was a very very quickly realized that the man just with in in you know in terms of painting uh because in real
17:32
life oh like he has no ego um and it like he he will happily paint
17:38
like like those uh breaches um he could have spent hours on them and made them look utterly phenomenal yeah
17:45
but that's not what he wants to do no um like he wants to to help people it
17:51
goes back on the table it goes back to what we said about um about sometimes on some of the master classes on Warhammer Plus
17:58
I don't want to go down the wall Hammer plus rabbit hole because it's never come out with me but there was videos we watched where we felt like you were you
18:05
weren't learning anything you were just watching on Expert paint and you know and and some of the top painters out
18:11
there that I I love watching Richard Gray but you know it doesn't inspire me to pick up a paintbrush and follow him
18:17
it makes me want to just take me paint brushes and bend them you know what I mean so but and and peachy knows to to
18:24
be able to he knows when he can slide down and slide up scale together and I
18:30
think when sometimes people go no these are crap and you're going hey you haven't really took any notice that it's a one minute video over a longer process
18:37
and you're not really taking much notice the fact is that it's intentionally just to get you playing with them yeah you
18:43
know that's why we're not painting one he's showing you ten painted because it's the idea of a squad of them yeah if
18:49
it was one painted to an amazing level to go in your glass cabinet that's cool but that's not yeah and I think you know
18:56
I think I think hopefully eventually that mindset will will sort of click with is that's what the painting fees do
19:02
yes yeah yeah yeah I think so let them off the leash every now and again maybe well I mean he's on his own leash yeah
19:08
that's true he does what he wants to do uh yeah we've got like we've got some kick bashing videos coming out
19:14
um which would be really fun and as I was Phil it's quite interesting from a filming point of view because I'm like I
19:21
keep saying I'm a new hobbyist you know I've been doing it for like a year now but maybe with the time that I've actually put into hobby
19:27
um it's probably like two months yeah you know and a half stints of an evening what we've been filming um I've just
19:34
been like oh cool like that's really interesting and that's cool and and like we adjust the scripts because because I
19:39
mean I I was watching peachy turn uh things into zombies yeah and I always think of kick bashing I think of like
19:45
immediately thinking like Pete the wargamer and the the dead animal bits and three out of five and it's like
19:51
you'll need modeling tools and green stuff and this and I'm like oh um although Peter is great yeah oh he's
19:57
brilliant it's absolutely phenomenal but I love Daddy Dave at Games Workshop stuff they go here you go Peter Nicole
20:03
oh you've sent me that let me stand that into your chaos it's even he made a tank out of the um
20:11
out of the terrain yeah just the video thumbnail was just like big chungus and I was like yes Pete yes
20:20
um but yeah but um uh like peaches were kick bashing um spoilers turning stuff into zombies
20:25
um and it's like you cut the foot off and you rotate it in so it has like a weird zombie gate and you kind of move
20:31
the arms up a little bit um or you can replace some of the arms with like zombies
20:36
kick bashing I thought was quite intimidating but that's actually quite approachable and then he was like
20:42
that's a very good introduction because he was like I just do it like and I have done for like 20 years I I think that's
20:49
a thing isn't it it's like it's not throwing Parts at it it's knowing that I the Gate of a zombie Walking will be
20:56
differently will be different yeah we'll do that yeah other thing and you did you say to me that he made one of the
21:01
zombies entirely only other parts of its own kit yes and you think you know I've never seen anybody build zombie
21:07
Miniatures without having to go to some sort of yeah dead or Dead undead slash
21:13
sort of yeah yeah so he had a um okay just Kate old Cadian trooper and
21:19
he took the Open Hands from a tank yeah Commander or like one of the heavy
21:25
gunners I think or something and and you know put them up in like the Thriller
21:31
um and then you go a bit more advanced and you chop the chop the hands off you put the Dead walker hands on and you change the head and then a lot of it
21:37
comes in with the paint job as well and how messed up they'll be um something you get to see what those
21:42
look like oh he's a revelation he really is very glad to have him on board oh I could couldn't be more pleased yeah
21:48
really couldn't yeah especially because mainly the the main reason I could be well pleases it leads that our viewers don't have to just keep suffering us
21:57
I mean yeah yeah yeah yeah you know I prefer to be behind the scenes yeah
22:02
we'll talk a soft and suffering what we do should we crack on with these neophytes I think that's a very good idea right then let's get on
22:15

23:55
swearing and tears and it's a couple of you know we don't show the bit where I go to I'd never tantrum
24:00
and scream and then come back in again what are they going to say about this on shorts
24:05
on the phone to your wife yeah Jeff you've got to have to go downstairs
24:11
now you can't just kick them down right and so we went into entirely
24:18
different schemes didn't which I'm really pleased about to be honest yeah go on then let's see what we've got
24:24
going on so talk through mine um spread it white yep and I I you can
24:32
tell that I have been watching uh peachy paint quite a lot
24:38
um so so I took um lots of his ideas and uh smush them
24:44
smush them into uh into the miniature so it's pretty white why do you spread it white thank you yes
24:52
sir from CPA to give make the armor a bit creamy um picked out the uh blacks and the
24:59
metallics washed it all with toggle raid shade um and I think my my favorite part of
25:04
the mini is the armor um looks really good and if I try to paint that
25:10
like long form yeah I I it would be awful so
25:16
thank you peachy for making me look like I am a better painter
25:23
um and that's what his aim is to do for all of you yeah so already uh I'm like
25:28
hey Peach is on something this is great because oh can you imagine like recess shading or uh all of those and then
25:34
layer them back up over the ribbly bits just right no thanks do you know what I like about it is the fact that the thing
25:40
is made that as I look at it more to think about is the fact is it looks more
25:47
like a mutated human I like the color scheme that I've gone with but it's the classic Jean Steeler
25:53
called colors color scheme that looks like somebody who's once an ordinary human being has been mutated into that
26:00
thing yeah by having that sort of flesh tone so and I like that yeah I mean I've
26:05
never never really painted skin before so um I I'm not sure if I think I would
26:13
have preferred it a little bit brighter yeah um I think I was supposed to use catch and flesh but
26:18
um I couldn't find it so these kids love instead um give them a flesh applied perhaps a
26:23
little bit too heavily tried to put some juicy Violet on to differentiate between the kind of like armored arms and then
26:30
the hands and that kind of thing um but overall for a quick little paint job
26:37
um I think I I certainly got my finish before you you did by a long way and bye bye about
26:44
an hour and a half I think um yeah like it's all right uh um we've
26:52
been uh using some Dirty Dan rust on the base um and that was just like following the
26:57
Peach's method that he did on the um on the scenery from into dark um I don't forget to dry brush it so I
27:04
just did that right at the end yeah um but yeah overall as as a as a
27:09
painting experience I thoroughly enjoyed this with this with his little face um oh this little face is oh his cute
27:17
little face um don't hate it um I think I I think like this is I
27:23
think I would find a human face harder like this has really defined features yeah defined features that you can like
27:29
well I need to highlight there and there and there and then across here yeah um and and that's been okay I've kind of
27:36
I tried to purple up the back of his head but it just kind of turned brown but again it works there is a bit of a
27:43
fade um on there so it's not the end of the world but as a gaming piece
27:48
um I'd be tough for that um I think it looks great yeah that's not a way I've seen them painted before but I like it it's gonna be sad yeah so
27:56
I'm all about yeah the base coat being like the armor I think what took me the most time was just like layering up the
28:02
skin yeah um just because I didn't want to get it all over the other stuff that I'd already painted
28:08
um so yeah skin may be a bit too dark I don't think the juju Violet on the arms work quite as well as I wanted it to
28:14
um so maybe something else but I I'm not a good enough painter to know what I
28:21
should have done and also you've never painted one before yeah so yeah you know 10 in might be a different story it's
28:27
like a Fisher Price my first Gene steamer absolutely I'm excited that the irony is
28:32
the fact I've got a box full of them I've never painted any of them yourself yeah right then so my chap is in the
28:39
traditional standards uh
28:44
variants of what they look like yes you will notice there's an odd silver bit where I managed to just at the very last
28:50
second as always the way put me thumb on it with the silver things the very last seconds

last thing I did I managed to someone missed grabbed me brush and managed to do that but yeah so he's gone all the
29:03
standard way he's got some um he's got some slanesh gray for highlights in his
29:09
face followed by a little bit of um palette witch flesh uh the armor has been done with uh
29:16
Kantor and ultiac blue and then Hoth blue over the top of that and then so
29:21
and then there's been none oil over it as well to deaden it down in places but yeah so he's the standard sort of
29:27
variance I did like which um some of this some of the ideas this came from uh
29:33
are very old uh Mr Rhodes video from back in the day I think it was when they
29:38
were very first released um before they were even a proper army they were in like a um like one of these like boxer
29:44
games I like space hill yeah but it was um I can't remember who they were best as
29:50
probably Space Marines would make sense wouldn't it um oh yeah the Canoa versus death watch all right and it was like a
29:55
little game in a box almost and um and uh I think he was painting them for that it was before or maybe just when
30:01
their first code actually come out but he um talked about painting the entire miniature in agrax and then it actually
30:09
used diagrams to point out over the uh the mechanical standard grade that we started with turn the trousers almost
30:15
into like a very dark military green yeah so generally very pleased with it
30:21
um I think uh you know because I've got because of the current matter of how to
30:27
play Gene steel of course all right I might have another 30 of these gets to paint oh they're pretty good yeah
30:33
they're currently pretty good they're the Mainstay at the moment that everyone really likes so um well there you go you've only got 29 oh see thank you very
30:41
much he's like on attachment from a different cult yes yeah yeah but yeah but it's a
30:47
Convent yeah absolutely but generally it was a good little um it was a good little video to do yeah please enough for that yeah you know but uh you know
30:55
like say man's uh mine's not great shakes it's the way we're all used to seeing them but um yours is something a
31:00
bit different and impressed with that man especially for our first go yeah not
31:05
