I'm peachy I am the voice of Patrick I am Jeff and some of you may not know
0:06
who this beautiful looking specimen of human is is Pete the wargamer hello hey hello you have a face I know a lot of
0:12
people just think of Japanese but I actually have the rest of my body too so I'm just a disembodied Pair of Hands So
0:18
I have been aware of you for a few years I'd say five you've been going longer yeah longer yeah we'll talk about that a
0:25
minute because that was interesting because I did a deep dive over the last few days of what what you've done
0:30
yeah I know about the internet in the park
0:37
that did sound quite soon I'm really sorry about this Pete he does
0:44
it for the most innocuous things he was the thing we were talking about about meeting fans at um absolute I'm nice to
0:51
make it sound like they're going to be taken off one at the time it was really weird yeah I mean it
0:56
sounds like it might actually happen I mean I had to get credit check to come on here this now explains why people when I was a manager used to get really
1:02
scared I don't know why yeah but but yeah it's great to have you
1:08
on the show thank you for coming on yeah it's nice to see you in the flesh at least more than just more than just four
1:13
arms yeah um so yeah I was gonna ask some questions I've got a few my head so obviously we'll come to you all general
1:21
you know where you started off from with the fire but I think I became a fan of Pete the wargamer when he painted eventually Noble
1:27
and that was about five years ago that was my first introduction to you like I said you've been going longer and it was
1:33
I can't remember if it was just before just after I moved to warmer TV because it's around that kind of time zone
1:39
um and we we had done some stuff for the Army book um and a bunch of the guys in the Army painting team and like converted like
1:45
the indignant prefix I think they call another ones with like heads and stuff
1:50
yeah I just saw that as well um which I was like oh that's very pretty better better done
1:57
um and yeah someone said oh have you seen this paint guard of eventually neighbors I was like I would dare anyone say my friend Julian Nobles and do it
2:03
but that's really good I might watch more of this guy I think it was a run about the because
2:11
they came out in one of the army books wasn't the obviously the most recent one not that one before it was it like I
2:17
want to say not 70 or beneath yeah at least one of the iterations because it was after we moved from Seventh to
2:22
eighth and then you had the sort of index starting books which was like to keep you going by
2:28
and that was when we were like there's no new bassets coming out make some cool stuff yeah because it was really cool because there's loads of different
2:35
um just different conversions that people have done there's like the Indian prefects yeah even truly Nobles there
2:41
was the the ones you'd know about that came down to things a few like quite nice ones that were a bit new as well as
2:47
far as I knew I think some of them maybe had in that really old Imperial Guard codex that had all of the regiments listed in
2:53
there um but yeah it was nicer I thought well people are going to want to know how to build these so yeah my biggest book bear
2:59
with that was they did the myersman red cows and at the time what was I think it was available for a month was the um
3:06
wood elf Archer set it was like an old war machine like the wood elf arches and
3:11
it went out of sale that month after they're done after the release had been so let's go ahead yeah they used one of
3:18
their heads in in in the conversion because at the time it was it was available yeah uh it was like we should have done skitari Ranger heads with the
3:25
hoods if they would have fit as well I have seen people who've done that and just used the ranger heads as well but yeah but yes it was it was nice to to
3:32
obviously watch through there's been looking at a lot of your recent stuff and the content uh loving the thumbnails
3:38
I know Pat's a big fan of like thumbnails and like uh description stuff like that so that for me I don't know if
3:44
you guys have been looking at some of the new stuff it's like it's such a tease because it's you see like like a conversion in like Caboose has done
3:50
because you you've done some stuff or like oh the Frosted outfit yeah yeah it
3:56
looks like damn you yeah a smart move yeah I'm being tricked into this but I'm not mad about it yeah there's no
4:02
ClickBank it's just like yeah yeah you know the worst of it is is that your process is so watchable that when the
4:09
video comes out I can't fast forward it to the end to have a look I go in and I think and then you get started and the
4:15
The Voice kicks in and then they go oh go on there I really haven't got this amount of time but I did that I did that
4:21
with a Talon because I was like I want to see what it looks like then but I need to watch them is that Christmas if
4:27
you if you squint at the thumbnails where it's all pixels you can you can actually make it out quite well so if you look at it squinted at it and you're
4:33
like like that you can actually see it quite a bit because it all blurs together and becomes less that's that's the trick but I do feel like yeah
4:41
I do put like the the chapters in as well so if someone just don't want to be like oh it's going to go right to the
4:46
end and have a look at the can do but I think from people I've spoken to they've watched go to the NC and like oh I still
4:53
want to know how it's done now so they're still going back so I it's like a nice little tease to get get people into it but yeah I'm not holding
5:00
anything back really so your very first video is a review of white dwarf yeah
5:05
that's like nine years ago yes I think the channel turned nine a few weeks ago
5:11
I got like an official like YouTube channel today and you've had a few name changes because it was talking war game yeah so this is gonna go back so I'm
5:18
going to wonder how far back you know about me in my my first well
5:24
there was that time when you're at primary we won't talk about that that's weird
5:30
nine years that's about it so I so before I even had a YouTube channel
5:35
um I had a Blog and it's called the frame paintbrush and it's still available online still there it's like
5:41
it's it's crap now because it's like over time that I haven't I haven't updated in about nine years so it's just
5:47
but I I basically started out because um I I stopped doing Warhammer for a while
5:53
uh whilst I was at University because it had no money so but then when I started working I got money again I couldn't
5:58
afford to do Warhammer so I thought well how do I want to document what I've been doing and keep a track and keep just
6:04
like a personal unlock so I make a blog like everyone did at the time and I did the frame paintbrush blog and
6:11
I did a few articles on there and a few of my earliest conversions that I kind of did publicly were on there as well
6:18
and it I I ended up doing some more uh some writing for the website taught wargaming
6:25
as well which is right at the time spoke to the guy and did some articles for that and then that kind of moved into new videos and then
6:31
indicate that so the channels originally taught wargaming then it became the wargamer and then it became Pete the war
6:36
game which just has been for the longest time yes yeah
6:42
um but yeah that's I can't really want to change my name it was probably about six years ago now it's quite a while ago yeah yeah because I remember I think the
6:48
eventually Noble might have been the war game at the time because they made Steve was on about it obviously in the war games who's this yeah and then oh oh
6:56
someone dude eventually know what's up oh cool yeah I remember the first time I came into
7:02
contact with your work was um my son got into 40K through Scouts yep
7:11
and uh he pushed for us to get the eighth edition starter box it obviously came with the death guard and you did
7:18
the Lord of contagion
7:27
yeah yeah and um yeah you did um you did the loads of contagion and I hadn't
7:33
started painting any and I looked at that and then I went out to to uh I
7:39
don't know whether you know them there's a shop called boys we have did a bit of a salad for things sort of shop where they have a small
7:45
they always have a small Games Workshop range in there they're about 20 off and I went out basically with a screenshot
7:51
the two screenshots of the paints so I spent about 75 pounds on paints came
7:57
back in and then attempted to learn to do get so my death guard for the longest time before he started took a grimier
8:02
and Grammy yeah were based on on that loads of contagion I must have watched that I think I must have been to about
8:08
at least Thirty or forty dollars because I turned the amount of times yeah
8:13
that's what I used to do because I used to I mean I did it on purpose but people actually made a point to this uh later
8:18
on I used to just put the the paint list in the video that's right yeah and then people used to say oh I've watched this video like 20 times just go back and
8:25
look at the paintless I'm thinking that seems a bit like sketchy people might think I'm doing that on purpose
8:36
smart yeah yeah but it was but it was great because it was it was really
8:41
it was not it was one of those it was one of one of the first painting tutorials I'd seen on YouTube where it was great because it's like very much
8:48
with what with what peachy does is it never any points to feel lost never any points they go what he was like he was
8:54
going the cloak is this call it a non-oil do this yeah and it was just really a
9:00
a really great result but we didn't feel like at any point as a new beta painting them didn't feel lost I thought it was
9:07
really good and that's where I've stuck with you from ever since really this is one of those things which I've I've
9:13
always tried to do because um I think you've mentioned in one on the previous podcast as well about when
9:18
you're making a guide you've got to make it so that you can make it as high level as you want but someone has never watched your
9:24
videos before and they've never seen how to paint something and you're saying just dry brush it or just pin it or
9:31
something like that and they don't know what that process is yeah yeah and they then got to go Trace them back find the video that explains it or something like
9:36
that yeah so I always try to include a description of everything that I'm doing and maybe if you watch a lot of my
9:43
videos it might get a little bit greater at times no okay I know what this is but it is good because you've got to be
9:49
aware that that might be the first video that someone ever sees yeah absolutely yeah um and that's what I've always tried to do so there's no barrier of
9:55
Entry to watching my videos you can watch one video and hopefully know everything you need to know to build
10:00
that model and paint that model but yeah I think it's how you communicate it isn't it as well it's like you don't have to go over every single step but
10:06
you can you can even refer back to videos yeah and pop them in the corner I suppose but um you probably got a bunch of questions
10:12
but my question was gonna be um because I've got loads um as always how long have you got
10:18
people I forgot this is gonna be the three hour uh so you start off reviewing yeah white
10:25
wolves yeah I think like two or three and then it moved to like box like some products like looking at like kits and
10:31
stuff then because like I think the white was something that were like 900 views somewhere like in the thousands
10:37
and then there was I think the first paint guide you did was the Mars Attacks dude and then that just like bam so so
10:45
yeah I started doing um it was a white door weekly when that was a thing and uh oh cool [ __ ] yeah so
10:51
that was a big success so I started doing that and he said
10:57
um walk into town and get that every Saturday come back through and then do a video on it and that was like my why
11:02
that was my video production and I started doing uh reviews as well um and that was really just an excuse to
11:08
buy stuff and be like Oh I'm using it for a review that's what I'm doing um and then I did I think the first
11:13
tutorial I did was zombie side yeah yeah and that was like
11:19
the first one that I did and it was um I think it was something I did with the Army painter they contacted me and we're
11:25
like do you want we've got a zombie side paint set do you want to do something I already bought the game for myself I was playing it I was like okay this is
11:31
perfect um so I painted one of the models and I did it it was quite a straightforward kind of painting because a board game
11:37
lots of models don't want anything too strenuous but I still did the kind of base coat washes and highlights so you
11:43
could you could stop at the wash stage or stop at the base coat stage if you wanted to um but yeah that was the first thing I
11:49
was like oh there's actually something in there some people seem to respond quite well so I started doing more and
11:55
more kind of tutorials and painted tutorials and and less of the the reviews from that point yeah would you
12:01
say I was around about the same time I'd argue point before roads started doing warmer TV because you've only been doing
12:07
a couple years before I had a night and that was five years ago I started yeah so possibly yeah yeah so possibly that's
12:13
interesting yeah because I um I looked through like you you've got a lot of painting videos on there now but there's
12:19
quite a broad because there's somewhere we've been tackling with like you know if we do Star Wars it doesn't it doesn't hit as well yeah with like the 40K stuff
12:26
and you know people say there's arguments are 40K and Games Workshop ruins the YouTube sort of
12:33
um algorithm stuff I I guess it's the way it's packaged but you don't seem to have massively suffered from that and I
12:38
guess you've got that brand that's been on because you've done cinepolonics in World War II and they still hit like high numbers 40K does get better
12:44
obviously yeah like some of your kit bashes I think it was your hell bricked it's like your most I think so yeah
12:49
successful one which is like pretty yeah and then um was it golden demon in America last year somebody somebody was
12:57
inspired by your idea and then they won they won something I can't remember I think they might have won silver in the
13:03
category yeah I think they did that right but I mean it was it was what far better done than I than I did it but so
13:09
I wasn't even like mad that they don't understand the same kind of thing um so it was but this is this is the
13:15
thing it's one of those I've got to a stage now where it's quite funny to see because I think if you do a
13:21
painting guide and you show someone how to paint Imperial fists and you've seen someone painted in a PFS unless you've got a very different way of painting
13:28
them there's no way of knowing who's paint whose guide that person's followed if they just made something themselves but when you do a conversion and it's a
13:35
very particular conversion yeah and you see that recreated on Reddit or Facebook or
13:40
Instagram or anything like that you know that that person's followed you and then you'll see people in the comments oh did you follow people yeah and it's quite
13:46
nice to see that people have been able to do that because yeah it's the best it's the best guide as as to how
13:52
while you're conveying stuff as to how well people can follow it someone did um
13:57
recreated the angron model that I did oh wow and it was like Brave of them yeah because I was thinking I mean No One's
14:04
Gonna I did I thought no one no one's gonna do this no one's gonna ever go this and did someone has done it it's
14:09
amazing because it's just that's quite an involved kick bash lots of sculpting in there can be quite daunting for
14:14
people but that person obviously watched the video and felt confident enough to try it themselves which is great that's
14:20
exactly what I want people to do when they watch my videos I mean from a converting point of view and there's some really nice simple kit bashes in
14:27
there but obviously you use green stuff a lot here and there for for um obviously getting things to look less
14:32
clunky and stuff I mean I I know from my experience I tend to keep it to plastic and then maybe feel with super glue
14:38
because I'm lazy um but I was looking at your uh Tau auxiliary I can't remember the how to
14:44
pronounce the name scrav that's it yes I think you would remember yeah but you went like down like a mushroom route
14:50
didn't you yeah it was really cool because you've got the domed head which looks like yeah and then the weirdos bone Reaper like spines yeah because
14:56
there's also really cool models they are yeah but yeah the conversion a bit of green stuff in it wasn't that I was
15:02
looking again I'm not that good at green stuff I've done a few videos for warmer TV but that
15:07
that's not it's well done yeah and you need us to build up the skill set but you can watch that and follow it which
15:14
is the important bit yeah which I think I've seen a fair few videos out there where you see something go cool that's
15:19
amazing well done for showing off your skill I'll never be able to do that but with the stuff that you do it feels a bit more achievable feels like at least
15:26
gets you want to roll some green stuff up and give it a go well I think this is good this is the thing because
15:33
I'm I'm I wouldn't say if you look on Instagram you look on Reddit and stuff like that there's some people who are
15:38
amazing kit bashes and the guy who won golden demon last year with the the mega Garden yeah that's amazing conversion
15:44
work it's far beyond what I could do as a kit Basher I could give it a go but the results I couldn't get anything near
15:50
as smooth and Flawless as that but what I do isn't isn't necessarily that
15:57
high of a level but I think I just try to convey it enough for people to understand it and yeah a lot of it's
16:02
just little tips and tricks like green stuff as soon as I realized that if you get silicon tip tools and you smell like Vaseline or something it makes working
16:08
with green stuff ridiculously easier but I only learned that two three years ago
16:13
and I've been using green stuff for years before that and just not being able to do anything with it and as soon
16:19
as you learn that when people have followed that and they've been able to master the up their game it's just that little tip and
16:25
tricks and stuff and then just practice over time yeah I remember the Paris and I think it was Ali and when I was doing
16:30
some green real bass I think I it was an orc Commando like a boss snake roll what
16:36
was called um and I gave him Berry looked like ketchup and poured on his head to be fair it wasn't great I like it oh yeah
16:43
by the way we're looking down at Pat and just mixing it up uh but they were like saying oh yeah
16:49
keep your fingers constantly where you know because it doesn't stick there and you don't get the thumb prints and stuff so I've always like lit my fingers but
16:55
then I get really sore fingers because it sucks the moisture out so I'm constantly like licking which I'm gonna yeah I actually remember there's a white
17:02
dwarf article from years back that I mean this is probably about 20 years ago maybe nearly going back and it said someone was was green stuffing and they
17:08
said those little fingers because it's good to keep it but then they actually found that green stuff may be back then I don't know if it still is anymore like
17:14
it's actually mildly tight yeah yeah so it's like you shouldn't really be doing that but I did just use water
17:21
why did you seize water and then and then I'm sorry the only thing is if you if you do use Vaseline you need to like
17:27
make sure when it's dried you like wipe it off yeah unless you like getting a big scoop of it and slapping it it's not
17:32
gonna be a problem no it's a nice tip and something I'm going to be using when I do more green stuffing or modeling
17:37
putty um but yeah they just seem for me it's like the nice Journey scene in the kit but I've seen it in plastic because that
17:45
does another thing I've noticed when I put post plastic conversions on Instagram they do better sometimes than
17:51
the painted version and I think it's because people in their minds I can put their own color scheme on it and go swap
17:56
that so having that as a part of your video is quite good because people can just like well I'm not gonna paint it but I've got that nice aspirational
18:03
design that I'm going to follow but yeah there's some really interesting conversions you've done I'm a big fan
18:08
what originally Drew you towards converting
18:13
um the first I was thinking about this actually not too long ago and the first thing that actually drew me to
18:18
converting was um lack of finances and it sounds like it can considering some of the recent
18:25
videos that I've done it probably cost more than the original model would have done um yeah so the first I I it was not long
18:32
after I'd started playing War 4K and I was collecting Space Marines and it was when the first plastic Space Marine
18:38
Commander came out with a few extra bits in in the kit and I went into my local shop and I picked them up and the guy
18:45
behind the camera said well if you buy a box of five tactical Marines there's enough spare bits in that Commander that
18:50
you can add them to the squad and make five veterans and might give them
18:56
different weapons and different heads and stuff and that's exactly what I did and from there I literally just would rather than buying metal versions and
19:03
models I would just take plastic bits and make my approximation they're really crude stuff compared to like I found one
19:10
of the guys actually is broken but he had um he had two knives and he had but the
19:16
thing is the only way I could get the arms was he kind of looks like the knives are snapped off now so he just kind of like looks like he's just doing
19:21
that yeah his one arm's like a repositioned
19:26
Bolter arm and the other arms are repositioned like just strange combinations of arms so he's got no
19:32
knives he's just standing like that do the mashed potatoes yeah I was trying to think of the dance yeah
19:38
yeah yeah nailed it so I think that was the first thing that I did and I used to do like if there was
19:44
I didn't really like working with the metal model so I used to get like try and build my own inquisitors rather than buying them and things like that and
19:50
then over time I just started to do a little bit more um get a bit more adventurous with it as
19:57
well and build it from there I've done them a lot of converting with metals and you're there for ages of a sore sore
20:02
away then pinning oh God yeah so when when I started hitting plastic because obviously plastic became more widely
20:08
available for all the kits out there I don't think I've ever done anything that's now since because it's just
20:15
there's no need I did some fine cask and kick bashing oh that was Brave
20:22
so that's just what you do with the normal set is it yeah oh sorry sorry
20:31
yeah I'm sorry I did a um case of zacarius using his reply gas model and
20:37
Patrick Cantor as well um and I did a halbrecht before he got
20:43
re-released some plastic as well and made him into like a Primus version which is annoying actually because if you look at all the reveals from from
20:49
adapticon last week once again Games Workshop for stealing my conversion ideas yeah and building them as models
20:55
so um they'll be hearing from my lawyers very soon yeah it's the highest form of
21:00
flattery though surely the thing is I think I think speaking it's one of those things people said oh yeah games which I've seen the idea and I think they mean
21:06
it in Jess but what you said in the past this stuff which is in the background have been worked on for years and years
21:12
and years so like by the time I come along to do something it's probably already been in process for like two years by that point it's it's weird
21:19
because sometimes people just have the same mindset yeah and and pretty much come because when you did your talent as
21:26
a Raider I think we'll film in our Talon you use green stuff for the head right I use masking tape yeah and I think they
21:31
came out roughly around about the same kind of time so people could say you copied this idea no I think it's just like no we're trying to got that mindset
21:38
and just like that'll be cool to do Thailand desert Raiders your color scheme's slightly different to my color scheme which is good because it gives people options and stuff so
21:44
um sometimes it is just that that coincidence well it's like how like bows were invented like simultaneously across
21:49
like yeah civilization with like groups that wouldn't have interacted I've seen the one of the ones that I did as well going back to my Raptors kill team
21:58
um I just won with the things on the shoulder yeah
22:04
I knew it'd come up I was watching that video and genuinely right I got to that
22:09
point in the video and he was like why has he got pouches on his back and his shoulder like what can he do it and I was thinking for the other Squad mates
22:14
and then nothing is you pass yeah I was like okay well I can back away from the keyboard
22:27
um so yeah it was um oh it completely lost my trailer now but yeah that's that's kind of where oh bows at the same
22:32
time yeah so I was doing the uh the Scout and I used the necromender Goliath
22:37
bits for it as and yeah um since then I've kind of gone through and
22:43
I've people popped up on Instagram I've gone through and seen what conversions did in the past and quite a few people had the same idea but they've maybe
22:48
released their stuff at like different type of like before I did but I didn't see their stuff as well because there's just a lot of stuff with if you look at
22:55
a kit there is a lot of possibilities but they're only going to be so many possibilities are actually going to work for a certain result so a lot of people
23:01
come to the same conclusion with things yeah um so some people will think oh it's
23:07
copying or something like that sometimes you do get inspired by other people's stuff because sometimes you just have the same idea yeah yeah um I mean
23:13
kabooski has been really good for me because he uh during lockdown he did the sister battle and horseback yeah he was
23:18
like oh I've got this idea I don't know what you think I was like I really want to make that so I was like looking at like some form of Steed to put my sister
23:24
in battle on but I'm like what legs do I use oh the nearest legs I've got like dracary like or dark elf I think all the
23:30
legs I used um but yeah just seeing the stuff he does with his like digital kit bashes oh man yeah and then there was the
23:37
ultramarine oxidation yes which for many levels was one it kind of fitted in my
23:42
master mcgregg um two just looks amazing and you make a good point saying this this is kind of
23:48
the levels for like characters it's just the troops you just paint them in blue armor and stuff which I think people do with like the old Canadians which made
23:54
sense but what I really liked about the video um is that kind of like reusability again I'm just cutting off I forget what
24:01
the um I always call them tacits the loincloth dress yeah they are called this is the thing so what do on YouTube
24:06
and you guys probably experience as well yeah if you're ever referencing historical stuff yeah yeah very good and
24:12
making sure you get the exact position the exact name I think they're called uh singular military yeah yeah that's what
24:19
it would begin with an S yeah um I can't remember it because I was watching again oh is that what they call it that's interesting completely forgot
24:25
it let's call them tastic yeah we say tassels then like no he's not wearing tassels he's wearing uh I think tacits
24:30
are kind of to the side sometimes yeah well I think they can also be the ones yeah but yeah that during that conversion you
24:37
go what I'm doing is cut these bits off but this the rest of this is still good to be used for ultramarine so I was like
24:42
top tip there make sure you reuse your bit system bend them you know you've been very careful to cut it off so it's
24:48
like reusable and I think as a kit Basher that's something I do a lot I don't when I cut like a hand off a model
24:54
I keep the rest of the arm yeah because I'm using that open hand from blood Bowl because I want like an overhand like I
24:59
don't know to do a thing cast a spell yeah but the rest of the arm is fine yeah so still that goes back in the bag
25:04
and where I think some people just think you're just wasteful and just Chuck it away and then go hey landfill come on
25:09
let's let's get rid of all these extra arms I don't need TW has its recycling program now yeah there we go
25:15
yeah so the only thing like I I do keep them and if I do any of my own conversions I'll use them but it's very
25:21
difficult for me to go in a future video and be like okay so go back to this other video Yeah build this video and
25:28
then use the parts that you've left over from that video to build this so I try not to like re-wrap so if I ever do
25:33
something you only need that torso again I'll probably just get it go and get a fresh torso for people yeah yeah it is a
25:39
good point I do if I if there's a part which is still usable afterwards because you've just taken a hand off or even a
25:45
really small part of it then I do say yeah keep it yeah I think if you don't say it and this is
25:52
something I've experienced if you if you don't actively mention the thing people don't think it's a thing um and it sounds mad like make sure you
25:59
do this with your brochure make sure you wash your brush after you finish painting remember oh you have to wash them after that because some people just
26:05
don't know so obviously mentioning the thing I think is is useful I mean I know I'd keep it myself because I'm used to
26:10
kick passion but but yeah putting it in there is is good it's funny when you realize how little people who are in The
26:17
Hobby don't know one of my customers is um has just bought his son do you know that that that really low level
26:25
um kill Team box and still got the death core and it's got the Orcs
26:30
loads of the barriers in yeah you've got loads of barriers and just the rubble yeah and he's brought us on that and he
26:36
said to me um he said what do I need to put them together and I was like well first of all so you're going to need a
26:41
decent pair of Clippers and then you look me when I went Clippers new one because you know
26:46
they're on a frame and he went yeah so you've got to slip them off when you win obviously I was just going to just snap
26:52
him out with my fingers and he was like how do you know when you want to go good God man what are you thinking well you also going to think that man just does
26:57
not know and he's literally has both a thing and knows nothing about it whatsoever I suppose also if your first
27:04
ever kit is one of those Scout models they're designed to be pushed out the sprue yeah so you think if that's the if
27:09
you if you're in scouts or like a school's League you can get these screws and you just oh they just push out if you don't get a box
27:16
that's right I didn't know that yeah yeah this isn't the first kit that I ever oh
27:22
nice it was Mario Mario goblins as well look at the little tiny little fragile Spears and I managed to get them all off
27:29
without destroying anything I did do it was it was Wednesday
27:34
my mom was happy um so it was it was the battle games of Middle Earth magazine yeah so I started
27:40
with that so uh mine's more is like issue one and issue four came with alerts and it was alerts he had like a
27:46
bow yes yeah and he had like obviously his metal model and he had a lot of tabs I was breaking goes off and I broke off
27:52
his bow thinking that was just like a little bit of oh but yeah and then when I actually came to paint I know he's only got like half a bow now
27:59
yeah there you go yeah yeah I remember we did a thing in Store retail so Duncan
28:06
a couple of guys uh were obviously in the derby store were all together and they kept forgetting about like what we
28:12
used to call had on sales like when you at Christmas time people were like buying the big box sets but like have you mentioned about Clippers or glue
28:17
because it's like selling a kit like a remote control car to a kid and not
28:22
mentioned oh by the way it needs batteries it doesn't come with batteries because on that Christmas morning the kid's like yeah I got a big car can't use it everywhere's closed
28:32
so I was always like make sure you mention about glues and Clippers and they kept forgetting it because your
28:37
hobby is you just want it excited you want to get people in playing games we weren't very salesy that's probably
28:42
terrible but we did all right as a store and I was like you know what because it's a thing we need to do as a business
28:48
I'm just going to get them on before we open for training build a model with scissors and glue it with sellotape see
28:55
how they go and they never they never forgot
29:01
you're just like hazing your own stuff this could be you Christmas morning
29:06
because you've got no good you've got no scissors I wonder how many kids ended up at a e on like Christmas morning with
29:12
super glue their eyes yeah the dad's like oh it's juice from Super
29:17
Glue you know I always think you know it would always be a good thing you know I know it would mean sacrificing half your
29:22
Christmas day but you know if you just rented a pop-up shop for a morning and it just sold batteries of all sizes tiny
29:43
[Music] in fact you could almost you know you get like like three double a batteries yeah that's 70 pounds
29:51
I think if you were the ice cream man someone's your biggest time right that's that's your business yeah just go around
29:57
on Christmas day you know with the jingle okay Triple A got you sorted yeah so Christmas emergency shop so future
30:05
proofing I think you know everything obviously when we were kids and we get our remote control cars you put the
30:11
batteries in I imagine a lot of them everything comes with like LiPO batteries now that are like built in so
30:17
usually charges yeah so you have to get USB charges and all that sort of stuff yeah that's true really make sure that
30:22
you uh stuck in the 80s yeah massive great big batteries you stole from like the works
30:28
oh yeah the big flashing lights they just have to be batteries we used to girls used to be Nick in them
30:33
the future's now old man yeah I mean I'm sorry I was just going off on the
30:39
tangent this is what we're doing there's so many times when we used to come back from school because we had a
30:44
coal fire at my mum and Dad's when we lived in the countryside we had a Coal Fire and my dad needed sticks and like
30:50
logs sometimes the log order wouldn't turn up or we just couldn't afford it so when they used to do the general elections he had all the signposts
31:03
now when I look back on this I can't believe it was a thing that there wasn't a gazillion health and safety issues for
31:09
you used to have these metal boxes by the side of the Railway and where in them was these things that
31:17
were probably about the diameter of the top of a cup and they put them on a railway line and they were there for an
31:23
emergency so if a train went over them they made an extraordinarily loud bang so the train would know to stop we just
31:30
knew them as what was called detonators they were like a little round metal disc so everyone used to crack them and then
31:35
it'd be great fun would be like trying to make them go off by hitting them with bricks and big Heights and stuff like that I like children
31:42
fingers imagine how loud to bang it's got to be for the train driver to be able to hear it yeah yeah on the end the
31:48
idea it was they used to put them on Railway line so if there was an emergency they could they would get the train to a stop very very interesting
31:55
they just used to leave them in a metal box or a padlocker at the size
32:06
so going back to Warhammer sorry
32:12
we've all seen the uh Warhammer Community articles yeah um where they send review copies out to
32:19
YouTubers uh painters and you're like oh here's this really Noble Imperial fist
32:25
guy for Horus heresy I wonder what conversion Pete's done oh he's a chaos guy
32:30
um do you think Games Workshop would be more surprised if you just painted him up like the boxer probably yeah because
32:37
if they ever said um like can you just can you just do this one normally Pete or like the first
32:43
time when you were like here he is one of my questions that was going to be my I was like what the hell is that so
32:52
so when when we get though when we get those like articles and stuff we usually get like an email a few weeks before or so so yeah we've got like a date and it
32:59
used to be can you paint it up and because I always would send a me about oh I'm going to convert it to this is
33:04
that okay and they're like yeah usually every time they've been like yeah that's fine and
33:10
but they've actually started to include it in the initial email now if you want to do painting or a conversion of it now oh cool so I think they kind of just
33:15
expect that I'm just gonna send them an ebook yeah yeah um but yeah I don't think I've ever done
33:21
one of those I mean you actually painted it normally the only thing I have done which has had the minimum amount of kick batches when I did the
33:27
um world uses for Horus heresy last year yeah um and they said like you can do a
33:33
little bit on your characters and maybe you leave this book keep it fairly out of the box the rest of it that's probably the most I've followed the
33:39
instructions in the last nine years I was gonna say I mean because as a kit Basher I tend to have to add something
33:45
yeah I can't not doing that so the only time I've not done it was when I was painting some stuff for community and it
33:51
was like some underworlds warbands there's a couple of little war bands here and there and it was just to show off the new contrast paints yeah
33:58
um but then I I had my own Cipher Lords I don't want to make them there should I give him a load of the here tonight heads because I've got like the wraps
34:04
they look a little bit like around room yeah um but they look like ninjas and they look Mega and I was like I can't
34:10
help myself I have to literally get that kid in that King yeah I've made a thing maybe we're like Dr Frankenstein maybe
34:16
we were like evil scientists if it was like the the Victorian times me and you'll be like evil scientists we were like you know
34:22
Pete and Peach let's go and Rob some Graves yeah what
34:28
we're gonna make today we're gonna give him a spider legs which I think we're just like really watered down anti-authoritarians I'm not follow the
34:36
instructions I believe in your rules yeah I don't know about you I I don't know you should start every video with
34:42
the instructions and just you know what you could do you know like you get those um like books for kids
34:48
where it's like different heads yeah yeah it's different legs maybe we should just make our own just do that yeah there you go yeah yeah that is a great
34:57
idea so I might be any question uh you kind of touched on it a little bit at the start but um your journey as a
35:02
hobbyist because obviously you're at Uni yeah yeah but I assume it was before that so yeah it was
35:08
um battle games middle of magazine yeah I like Lord of the Rings at the time so advert came on TV and I was like I still
35:13
like Lord of the Rings but the advert came on the TV and I was like okay it's Lord the Rings that's cool it's got my attention oh these little Miniatures and
35:19
little models you can paint and I've maybe painted a few FX kits up until that point so I thought oh go for it it was like I think the first issue was two
35:26
quid so I thought oh great yeah you get paints paintbrush 12 Mario Goblin so did that and basically just kind of got into
35:31
Lord of the Rings from that um size I kind of bought kits and there was a club at
35:39
school and we had our history teacher who was into historicals so he already
35:44
had like quite a lot of stuff like boards and stuff that we could use which is great for the Rings was just trees and hills and yeah rivers and things
35:50
like that and then there's a few of the guys there who were from like the old years so I think it was about
35:56
12 at the time that when I got into it and the few like the guys who went High years they had 140k and one of the fancy
36:02
battles and then that's how I got into it from that um and then I started collecting Space
36:07
Marines and I had a an Empire Army as well now I see and then I kind of played
36:13
that played games with my mates and things like that we used to go up to the local Games Workshop every Saturday play games there and then I went to
36:19
University and didn't have any money for it so kind of sold a lot of it off actually which is a shame I still got a
36:25
few little remnants here and there and then when I got back got back into it
36:30
um and yeah just kind of built it from there and pretty much been doing either the frame paint which blog or yeah YouTube channel since then so because I
36:37
remember my very first kick bash what would you what was your first kit if you can remember um I think it would have been that that
36:44
space for me yeah one I think but the the one which I I actually found at the other day I was gonna bring it with me I
36:49
completely forgot um our store used to have kick bash challenges so they would a little bit
36:54
like how they had the um the hobby Hangouts and stuff like
36:59
that you go in and there should be a pile of sprues that they've been using like offcuts and stuff like that it was like okay you can just you've got to
37:05
build the duel that's what you're going to do and everyone else was like getting uh clipping off a an elf or a space room
37:12
or something like that and making them fight unlike a bit of rubble and I it was when school passes come out and we
37:19
had like the it had like the dwarf classic little Mine Train yes yeah and it had like the plastic cannon in there
37:24
as well yeah and those bits were all like loose a tiny toy Cannon always yeah so I built a dwarf Dreadnought out of
37:31
them and I'll have to send you a picture because I found it the other day it's great and it's basically to the jewel of
37:36
it is I'd spent so long building it and it's only about that big but
37:42
um I need to actually have the dual aspect of it so I basically glued them to a door from one of the old scenery
37:48
kits as an Empire State soldiers just like on his back like that and there's like he's like bearing down on him with
37:53
like this spinning ax thing which is like a dwarf keg that was in that kit with axes sticking out of it
38:01
and I use like mainly dwarf parts and it's actually quite a fun little kit bastard and that was the first thing
38:06
that I did was that was beyond just being I'm just going to build a um like a space room with a different
38:12
head or something like that and then that year we had a
38:17
they have like a Christmas themed competition and it was father Alchemist and it was you kind of you would build a
38:24
sleigh and you would play a game and everyone collected as many presents and stuff like that as you possibly could
38:29
and everyone had just kind of got one the orc chariots and stuff I haven't built it around that and I got a truck
38:36
the old orc truck and built like this you know in the Grinch film when he
38:42
builds like the jet sleigh oh yeah yeah I basically did that with an orc and had like I don't have any plastic grips at
38:48
the time so I had uh knoblowers from oh nice yeah so they were like one of them is like hanging off a banner pole so if
38:54
I put him so cut the banner pole off and had it so that was like a lever and then stuck him on the on the cockpit so he's
39:01
like is if you've pushed it forward and it's just like flying forward yeah I had a little father orc mostly had a little
39:06
Center hat and a sack with like a last gun poking out of it um I did a video on it not too long ago
39:12
I said I dug it out and that was like it was at that point I was like I can do quite fun things I don't have to follow
39:18
yeah the rules I don't have to build the space room with this I can build something a bit more interesting I just kind of always have done since then I
39:24
think the interesting thing for me and because I don't know if you get this through comments on your channel but a
39:29
lot of people go you know where do I start the kit bash it seems so complicated and for me I've always said a head swap yeah a hand swap yeah and
39:36
then once you've done that you've got that confidence and you try something a little bit more complicated and when I say a little bit more complicated it's like a heads yeah and then maybe a hand
39:43
swap that does another handstop so you're not doing just mashed potatoes yeah um so that that was always the thing for
39:49
me because I always used to think it was that this crazy sort of like you have to be a sculpting out to be like a 3D
39:55
artist to be able to to do this and seen some of the old Slayer sword winners which was almost like the scoop to the
40:00
model from scratch it was like 54 meals oh my God that's insane yeah um but yeah you just got to start with
40:06
like the symbols I think I think the barrier to entry to kick bashing is probably the lowest Than The Narrative
40:11
of the part of the hobby I think it's easier to do a kit bash than it is to do like to improve your painting yeah or to
40:18
get really good at playing the game or get really invested in the law and everything because like you said you could just buy two Space Marine kits and
40:24
if you take a space Marine helmet from one cares to get on another as a kit bash yeah that's the bare minimum of a
40:29
kick bash it's not like it's not particularly compacts the parts are designed to go together you can still use
40:35
pre-primers heads and helmets on Primus models yeah so that's massively opens up
40:40
first you can get like sanguine regard you can get all the old Dark Angels blood angel stuff that they release you
40:46
can mix and match all the primary stuff and a lot of people don't realize that and don't necessarily want to buy the kits to try it out see if it works so I
40:54
do the video so yes it works and they're like okay cool I can go and get those bits I can get a kit and
40:59
I think that's the biggest barrier to entry with it is often it does increase the price
41:04
um it doesn't have to if you're building like an army you can just like touch on Earth you can just do unit leaders or characters
41:10
and paint the rest of the army that can do an awful lot but I think anyone who doesn't who is too scared to kick bash
41:17
just doing the bare minimum you will get will get you hooked on it and you'll enjoy it and you'll do a little bit more
41:22
and then you'll start chopping bits up I saw um the first sort of kit but like you say like a head swap
41:28
that I saw um with some heavy intercessors that you showed me Jeff and somebody had put Centurion Devastator helmets or
41:35
something um and they look amazing they look so good yeah and then I was like
41:41
I I built some Centurion Devastators that currently just primed and I'm like okay so I need to snap the heads off of
41:47
them and build some heavy interceptors I remember do because we used to do these tip of the day videos for a woman TV and
41:53
we used to do like a range one was like kick bash in different cultists and I think Duncan had done a couple and I'd
41:58
done one there was a slash one and I was just wanted to keep it really simple and use you use what we've got so I did dalax with core doors because they did
42:06
the resin Corridor they had lots of gnarly faces yeah yeah and I was like oh gonna do that because that's really
42:11
straightforward with the intention I think the intention was to do some paint videos of them but we never did probably
42:16
stealing your ideas there um and I remember getting slated by the
42:22
manager Rhodes and Roger was just like that's that's a bit too simple and like thank God so we just over complicated
42:28
for the sake of over complicated that was simple it was I wouldn't say
42:34
they're like the best slash cultists out there I mean you could do more but it was about trying to make it accessible because a lot of them were like you'd
42:39
cut this hand off here and reattach it to there and you need to get this head that has a different because you've got the ball socket on this one yeah it's
42:46
also got a ball socket on that so you have to like carve away and stuff that's just so much effort it's just like simple head swap there you are that's
42:52
that's a nice easy sort of entry level thing yeah even the comments were just like this is like a waste of time it was
42:57
like only two minutes I was like oh my God I'm trying to make it easy for you next time I'll over complicate it then
43:02
clearly this is things like quite often I'll get the opposite so I'll do a complicated conversion and some people
43:07
will be like oh well now do this for an army of 100 of these guys and
43:12
it annoys me as well because in the video I'll specifically say I'm gonna do five different ways to convert the space right yeah mix and match across your arm
43:19
you don't need to fight or five things on one guy you can mix and match across different models different unit leaders things like that and I'm just giving you
43:27
and rather than building five models I've seen on one model um but yeah it is frustrating because
43:33
you're either too complicated or not complicated enough Yeah you mentioned necromondo yeah I'm gonna I'm gonna
43:40
segue now oh nice I've got a little special I love this box Lunch Box yeah this is uh this is lunch boxes
43:46
sidetracked on our own show yeah so great I've actually got gifts for everyone oh no
43:52
um and I know you guys have been running a necromanter campaign yeah so I thought well I haven't I've used a lot of
43:58
necroman apart so my kit bashes but I've never actually kit bashed any necromonda characters or anything like that so or
44:04
the fruit fence so I'll start with you Jeff oh wonderful thank you very much so
44:09
I've made you a little um dalak oh um and are we so suitably evil so the
44:17
theme that I was going for with him was I've been playing like I look quite like the cyberpunk aspect that dalak have got and I thought I've been playing cyber
44:23
2027 and I thought 20 27 27 7 and and I thought it would be good to like have a
44:30
dalaku's specialized in hacking machines or hacking into like servitors or getting through cardiotators it was
44:37
amazing thank you so much I'm going to pass him around no he could do as well is um mock up some because we've been
44:42
using Yak travel you can actually add things into the actual skills and stuff so you can give them like skills you don't normally have access to protect
44:48
stuff well we'll get some photos and have them put up on yeah yeah yeah what head is that that is a
44:55
um from the electro priests the ones that have got like the eyes burnt out of them so that's why if you look on a
45:00
shoulder it's got like a little yeah yeah because that's his eyes yeah his eyes have been burnt clever man thank you so much that's really kind of you no
45:07
worries I'm gonna have to go back to my standing position my legs are going numb so I've not painted because obviously
45:12
you can paint it yeah um so pick the wargamer originals yours it's
45:19
Advanced and um so the the theme I was going with so I went through I went through the
45:24
background of them because that's what I do when I whenever do the kit bash always kind of like to catch up on the
45:29
background and stuff and vans are obviously manufacture a lot of equipment yeah and it mentioned in the in the work
45:36
that they have quite a lot of bureaucrats so he's a van style bureaucrat and a few um
45:46
data pad he's also quite surprised looking at like obviously some some shipping
45:54
someone's been there and he's got a few little extra little bits that's genius I like to think that's the rule book yeah
46:00
yeah this is the rule book guys so I think he's the 40K equivalent of that um
46:05
card and Overlord who's like putting into the box he's the guy who's like trying to like which war book is this
46:11
that guy's become a meme now yeah like 40K
46:32
yeah it's like a little map Reading dude didn't he and then Pat that's oh
46:37
somebody's axi and chunky so oh wow obviously he's uh oh he's so fat yeah
46:44
obviously the corpse going to make a lot of meat and I feel like maybe one of them enjoys eating that meat a lot and
46:50
maybe a bit too much so amazing I use one of the putrid black kings and then he stuck some of that genius corpse
46:56
grown a bit on the back and if you've gone the back there's like a rack of ribs there as well
47:02
yeah yeah because I've named um because yeah yeah we I put the necrom under game
47:08
out on our patreon last night yeah so that will be out today slash a week ago
47:14
for when this is released um oh that's so cool so my lead is called archive because I'm going with
47:19
technique okay archive uh firewall frame rate you can call it red tape
47:25
I wasn't gonna go to manko but red tape's much better yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah because mine all have meat
47:31
names yeah there are a few substitutes yes or spies oh who's a good like tech spy swordfish
47:39
oh Hugh Jackman what a film well the idea I was going to
47:44
go for that because originally I kind of diverted a little bit it was going to be like a queue like a James Bond card
47:51
and then I realized that the um the rust stalker arms from the ad Mech
47:57
work really well with the Dalek bodies so I thought well it's really impressive I think yeah because mine all have meat
48:03
names so like um sirloin is is the the Box the boss and there's Mr brisket and then tofu
48:10
who's like the MVP all the time I think I think this guy has to be something rib related as soon as they're hooked onto
48:17
his backpack that's incredible thank you so much yes that was really good really cool thank you man I can't wait to paint
48:22
him he's getting painted tonight that's what's happening I've got so I've been adding like all sorts of extra bits we're not I've not played a game with my
48:28
van Soldier is yeah we need to get a couple of games in for for that ready for the next picks we've got the it's on
48:33
patreon now isn't it the yeah obviously it was the time of it'll be released
48:38
they'll be watching it going this is so confusing but yeah so the first the first game will be up as these two uh
48:45
Duke Energy I did watch the first 20 minutes oh good yeah yeah so we need we we got like things to learn from it
48:52
everybody and stuff like that but yeah one of our amazing patrons was a news anchor yeah
48:57
it's really good yeah yeah we're so shout out to him yeah absolutely amazing
49:04
it's great well this is things like I I've I often collect the necromani kits because they're just really good for
49:09
bits just like you get so many cool components in there I'm always dipping into them um but I've never actually built
49:16
anything specifically for necrom and I built like a whole Squad of um van saw but then put scores on them
49:22
and made them into a versa assassin like recruits for the temple so they're like before they were fully initiated they
49:28
would get sent out on like as teams to do stuff and made like a guilty amount of those but I've never actually done
49:33
anything specifically for necromondo and it's there's so much like background and lore and depth in there
49:39
that you can just plow it for as much information you want to let your towels I was like literally looking at going I
49:45
could make that into a commander model because down in the sub you get all sorts of you get fungal forests yeah and stuff like that so there could be some weird like mutation or just beasts
49:52
because they get a lot of I mean there's the hashtag every model is an ecomunder model yeah because it's a it's a melting
49:59
Hub of just like Commerce and like different so that's where you get squats so you get all die right there you've got space means there you've got well
50:05
every faction can find a route to be there to some degree so like looking at some of those Kit bashes you've done I
50:11
was like yeah I could I could see like adding like weird fungal Warriors into and just find I'd use algorithm rules
50:18
because there's always a way of like finding rules and the Bounty Hunter uh rule set's really good because it has
50:23
like three different profiles and you're at a glance you're like that's a short walk-in thing probably a squat yeah
50:28
that's like a medium humanoid this is like could be in our green or it could be a beastman or could be so you can always find a way yeah squeezing
50:35
something and that's a great thing about nickelman is it's really open to well that's what I quite like about I never really got into the gaming side of it
50:42
but like the rule some of the rule books I picked up just to kind of look at the background and some of the pictures and stuff like that
50:47
um and it is just it's very like as deep as the actual and the hive is itself there's that much lore and background
50:53
that's been built up over the years and like all the stuff out um like the history of the vansar and where they came from and it's almost
50:59
like it's a myth unto itself which is um quite interesting but you mentioned about like the rules which is quite
51:04
interesting so when I built my that's one of the things that I do try to do when I'm doing kit bashes I try to think how are people going to be using this
51:11
and with that I built it on a to the rough proportions of a tower battle suit yeah so depending on what
51:17
you give them you could just run them as tail battles yes in a game even though he he wasn't the tower battle suit
51:23
um but I think this is the thing about that I find with 40K is probably the most limiting in terms of what you can
51:29
get away with in terms of kick bashing and still have something that's usable in a game um age of Sigma is very free yeah
51:34
because it's like as long as on the rough base size and your opponent knows what it is you can build what you want and like so is necromanc yeah
51:41
um but 40K you have to have it in mind that someone might be using it on a game yeah and being like Oh what is that what
51:47
rules is that um the General's handbook I can't remember which Edition now it's probably
51:52
a couple of years back now I'm gonna say 2019 2020. they did the um Anvil of the apotheosis which allowed
51:58
you to make your own War Scrolls yeah but the thing that I think Workshop misses a trick with which is why things
52:04
like Yak tribe really good and I was talking to someone they've sent me a link which I need to Don't touch don't don't press the links but this one's
52:10
secure it's fine um because I was I was whinging about like my war cry cards got all this whole
52:16
book full of Warcraft cards it's like a whole folder because I've built them up I bought that set because it was really hard to get into any other and then they
52:22
become all like superseded by the new rules because they've got like books the things and they're not making new cards someone to contact me saying oh there's
52:29
a really good app where you could literally make your own card print them out but you can also put your own photo
52:34
of your own models okay that's cool which then tells to me I can make my own characters for games I can do mine so if
52:40
I'm doing like a narrative campaign I want to do Jeff the barber um who's just got you know he's from
52:46
congrat he's a barbarian who like likes to fight but cut people's hair at the same time whilst fighting so that seems
52:53
so it's like how many slashes can you get but also shave all your hair off at the same time it just sounds like one of
52:59
my normal days could do that and it's like Ada Sigma
53:04
kind of had that but they didn't have an app for it and 40K feels like with the data sheets what I need to do is a
53:10
couple of apps because we've got an app web team um because I don't really like things like the the kill
53:15
um or the different rosters and stuff it just it's missing a trick for me where you could just literally put your own photo in just your stats some people
53:22
will take the mick obviously but for like people like me even like you kick bash a lot you know want to make that
53:27
cool thing awesome yeah it'd be just cool just to get like a bit of a like like for that Tower battle suit equivalent you could just get towel
53:33
battle Series rules put that in yeah and just rename them a little bit so for whatever I mean I'm not particularly
53:38
familiar with the rules but if you're like a special we'll just rename it yeah just so it's a bit more
53:45
I was going to ask because a question I get asked about when I've been on like live streams and like uh podcasts and
53:52
stuff uh what is your favorite do you have a favorite kit or at least a go-to range for converting
53:58
um so the Mark III kit has kind of become a bit of a meme on my channel where if I'm doing like space ring
54:03
conversions I always end up with the Mark 33k just for the shoulder pads or the heads or just some of the equipments and things like that
54:10
um so that's probably the most commonly used by those dual shoes that I mean system scores bit is like that's a
54:16
utility kit that is everyone should have one of those regardless exactly yeah
54:21
um I'm trying to think which which house outside of that I've used quite a lot of corridor Parts over time because they're
54:27
quite nice for like chaos cultists and stuff like that you can use like okay it's called strange I did yeah yeah just so we did one for every yeah so did a
54:34
word Bearer one which had the uh Corridor bodies but then the head was
54:39
one of the dark Riders from uh semester faces because it looks pretty
54:46
pretty medicine um but yeah I think I'd probably say one of the neck of indicates and then the
54:51
Mark 3 kit is probably the most commonly used ones yeah I'd say I'd say fillet if it's not one kit now it's a range which
54:58
is blood Bowl I find blue ball uh I don't play Blue Ball which is terrible I don't know what that is going off someone's about making some nice loud
55:04
noises there's the yeah apologies everybody
55:13
uh yeah I just found like look boy like the kits themselves you that I I find I cut all the hands off yeah and then give
55:20
them weapons from similar sized races and stuff so there's a nice selection out there but then I've got all these
55:25
cool hands because that was always the biggest thing for me when I was a kickback she was like I want things to be like I want that hand to be like
55:32
put in a magazine because sometimes a marine you get the kit where he's popping the magazine into into his bolt
55:37
rifle but what was if you're a Cadian you have that that's one thing that is lacking in the quiet whenever you see I
55:44
think the deluxe got a hand in it just like an open hand yeah and whenever you find an arm that's got like a kit that's
55:49
got like an opening oh my God yeah keep your note at that and then I'll use it in the future but it's actually surprisingly rare yeah yeah I think the
55:56
Empire arches was the the top tier for a long time because they had left open hands and right openers usually only one
56:02
side you can get the most of have you got if you've got a spreadsheet um so I've got like I'm not very good at
56:09
remembering a lot of things but I can remember exactly where my kits are and I
56:15
can roughly have got like a pretty good idea of what components are on what kit so whenever again UK I'll kind of basically study it and look and try and
56:21
make a mental note yeah um if if my wife asks me where something is in the house I like I don't know yeah but if she says
56:27
okay where's that one hand and which box that and I know exactly which is the
56:32
same she's like oh where's this thing a lot of fun I don't know wherever you put it she's like yeah but you used it less
56:37
I was like oh I don't know but then it's like uh I was looking for something the other day because we mate came over and
56:43
he was like oh you know I'm looking again to Warcraft I was like no I've got a kit of iron golems you can you can make use of and I just went box move
56:49
that dude I know it's under there news at the bottom there we are straight away got it put those things back and my wife's like why how
56:56
because I care about this yeah
57:02
never say that to Mrs Peach I care about the house darling honest but yeah she
57:07
always laughs at me she was like you know because I'm sure you're the same like when when you're in in the Army and
57:12
stuff you have to like we're quite aware of your surroundings yeah it's just like you know you you spot things for mile
57:18
off being a motorcyclist you can see things miles off but you can't see that new vials of flowers that are put in the
57:24
house and it's been there for four weeks you don't spot that but you can spot that thing a mile off over there I'm
57:29
like sorry I don't look at the flowers I'm looking at like where the next sniper Point might be I'm terrible for
57:36
um I'm terrible for storing conversations like we've somebody talked about
57:42
getting a house somewhere at a New Year's Eve party and I went oh remember
57:47
them that guy and his girlfriend moved into that estate and my wife was like who and I might remember and there was
57:53
like she's like and eventually when we were up we were at Emily's New Year's Eve party in 1999 and they said that
58:01
they just and she's like what and then I go over the shop for five
58:07
things and three and I'm on the phone and go what was the other two things sounds right yeah
58:14
Madness get memory I mean it's way it's what you you know I say you do care about certain things that you remember
58:19
him or yeah but I've got something to ask you what is the um what's the smallest thing on a spree
58:26
you've ever gonna bought a kit for um good question it was probably a hand
58:31
it was probably something it probably was something as small as a hand I can't really think it do you feel quite when
58:36
did you feel sort of annoyed with yourself when you have to do it or do you just have you resigned yourself to
58:42
it now so I I did used to buy end of your bits yeah and it got to the point where I've seen so many conversions it worked out cheaper just to buy the kits
58:48
and store them for future use yeah uh the problem with that is now that I've got so I I store my kits in nine liter
58:55
two um really useful boxes yeah and they're great because when you are they in your spare house no my garage so I
59:03
went over again okay I'll basically take it out of the box and I'll put it in you can you can lay two of like the smaller
59:09
size next to each other you can stick them up and I've got loads of those and I've got all those like label makers
59:14
saying what's in the boxes this is muscatari box this is my sister's a battle box I've got those in like Pilots
59:20
I'm in the middle of going through and doing that so I'm about 30 boxes at the moment of those and I need to order
59:26
about probably 20 more to get everything yeah I used to do sprues and it got to the point where space was running out so
59:32
I now cut everything off the screen put in baggies yeah but then that kind of throws up its own problems which then
59:37
throws up with its own Solutions so um Scions ten percent right they're
59:42
backpacks and their guns go very particularly there's a very particular build because they're all loose now in
59:48
my astrum militarum bag yeah I'm like cool it's not a problem because all I do is cut off all those cables
59:54
cables as well the arms fit it's fine but yeah sometimes um it for me it
1:00:01
encourages me to be a bit more um like pushes me for my kit bashing because it's all loose Parts it's not
1:00:07
the spirit I don't have the instructions which is also can be a bit of a nightmare because I'm there looking for
1:00:12
that arm that might match to that yeah but I do find I get more interesting kit bashes from having them in baggies but
1:00:19
that is the solution for space because I don't have it but yeah I'd like to have racks of very useful boxes with itemized
1:00:25
on the inside that would make more sense so I do have like little bits boxes as well so if I kind of get through a
1:00:31
spring I've built like a whole model and something which left I'll just kind of Click those little bits off and just put those in a smaller really useful box
1:00:37
with a sticker on saying what's in there um and I started I kind of got to the point where I I have loads of Space
1:00:43
Marine bits just from random bits and it got to the point where I just haven't been a box was really difficult so I got one of those the like craft boxes but
1:00:50
they use it like fishing and stuff like that you can put other little boxes yeah you've got little spaces in them so I've got like a little section first space
1:00:56
between here it's a little section for space between shoulders and then pouches yeah and then as it goes along all the
1:01:01
way and it's like each one's got its own little theme which is quite good because if you know you just open that box there's all my pouches grab that you
1:01:07
know I used to have one of them they're quite misleading because I I think as I was journeying from one house to the next because I was moving out with like
1:01:13
this rented flat and going to the house I live at now but I think I must have stored in the Box because it was like
1:01:19
uh horizontal but almost a story and they must have been like little gaps between the lids yeah and the segments
1:01:25
and everything just like went oh we're heads we're gonna go inside the arms now oh we're little pouches and knives we're
1:01:31
going to go inside of this one I hope and I was like ah that was the day I was triggered I've
1:01:37
done that where I've had it all sorted out and knocked the box over here
1:01:42
need for 40K what they do for the have you seen them um the Lego shakers my my son's got one you
1:01:50
know um you know like a standard Lego figurehead yeah well inside it's like
1:01:55
sibs okay so when you shake it it shakes all the bricks through to different
1:02:00
sizes that's insane it makes sense yeah yeah they're all very particular so yeah so yeah so at least you gotta you're not
1:02:07
obviously it doesn't solve everything but it gives you a head start that when you pull that out you know the thing I'm after is only two studs wide is gonna be
1:02:14
in this yeah in this in this tray amongst all of the things next level is
1:02:19
it's got lasers it can work out yeah that's green the next level is it rolls
1:02:25
around the house and picks all the bloody pieces have you seen that guy who makes those like useless inventions on
1:02:30
Instagram and he did something similar way he makes stuff which is actually quite clever and he 3D prints and
1:02:35
Designs his products and some of them are just ridiculously he actually did a vacuum cleaner that had that sieving
1:02:41
thing in there so like you could go around and like suck up all the Lego and it would pre-source it for you oh it's pretty cool yeah yeah
1:02:48
well be in our house if that exists the amount of effort that went into that is insane I've got a question for you okay
1:02:56
um and I've had to come up before on people's arguments ever since sort of
1:03:03
uh primaries Marines and other things have started as well yeah
1:03:09
what do you think with regards to um the old the older style of kits be it
1:03:16
Marines or and my Imperial guards or one thing or another the old ones where they are more
1:03:22
multi-part versus the newer ones where they're less multi-part but more Dynamic
1:03:27
yeah where'd you fall um so I always find that when people
1:03:32
combined about the lack of torso like waist movement yeah from a kit bashing
1:03:38
point of view obviously it was you kind of lost the ability to swap torsos around and do that but
1:03:43
when people said oh you could get more Dynamic poses I don't think you could because most of the time it was like a really awkward kind of yeah leaning back
1:03:50
very static inside because when you move the whole of you moves it's not just like you also step moves and the legs
1:03:56
position um so I never thought that it was lost
1:04:02
and I find that some of the new kits are really good how you can you can mix and match from a kid bashing point of view it does make things a little bit more
1:04:07
difficult um but it's not impossible though because I think the scale creep was the biggest
1:04:13
thing that was the biggest problem for me because it meant that yeah you show the pads and your heads could work and all the extras but your torsos couldn't
1:04:20
be used and the legs couldn't be used or anything like that and into a greater degree the arms can't
1:04:26
use which is weird because the old the Death Watch kit actually scales quite well the price yes because they've got like they're a little bit bigger yeah
1:04:32
um but yeah I think it's not although if you I did it with my uh Empress children
1:04:39
Horus heresy one so the new Mark six Space Marines yeah you can still use mock of the older style firstborn torsos
1:04:46
on them quite a little bit trimming and clipping but you can still stick them on quite easily because I I always thought when people when people were saying this
1:04:53
and they were harking back to the the the multi-part Marines they were going
1:04:58
oh but you haven't you can't do like you used to be able to and now if you look at primaris they are all basically
1:05:03
everyone's got the same Army they're just a different color and I know thankfully with things like the black Templars and so on coming out there that
1:05:10
the gothicness is retained slowly but I always remember back in the day they gave this thing a gun not at all
1:05:17
multi-part but everyone's arm used to look the same anyway what you're saying they could only twist a little bit or
1:05:23
the head could move but he got and they were just effectively you know or if there was a conversion everyone had the
1:05:29
same conversion which was back in the day Games Workshop you could go in and you could go up there and all the metal
1:05:34
parts and they would either have them and they would come out with a box and go here they are or they go you're gonna have to come back next week and we'll
1:05:39
cast them there used to be a metal pointing arm for a Devastator Sergeant so even though the sergeant was plastic the arm was metal
1:05:45
I must have had that Arm about nine or ten times it's one of the easiest things to do and
1:05:52
you realize and then you looked at your mates Army and he had appointed himself about nine or ten times one person creates the conversion which was a bent
1:05:59
Marine's arm and the hand was the the one of the
1:06:04
hands for holding the handlebars of the old motorbike okay yeah and it was turned up like that okay and all it was done was gripping the the wrist of
1:06:11
another one running firing a Plasma Pistol okay so is that sort of add that slight tactical sort of thing going on
1:06:17
and then someone did it and then next thing you know everybody's up you know so you think of going on
1:06:23
they'll multiply but I was still I I don't think I don't I I I sort of I sort of love the
1:06:30
dying the Dynamics of them now in a way but I sort of I appreciate the how much
1:06:35
has gone into them now but yes there is a loss yeah I I mean it's weird because I I struggled to
1:06:42
to see the loss um and the reason being is like most of the things I've kept Ash of late it's
1:06:48
like primaries I don't think there is that they're still pretty multipart there's still a lot you can do with it
1:06:53
um Gene siliculties bar like the Torso being set to where the grenades might
1:06:59
fit to the guy's lower part of the back where his bum is but from a glance they
1:07:04
all look very similar anyway in almost it's like the legs the Torso is not that much difference to the other guy next to
1:07:09
him um and I was like I wanted to keep match the assisted the battle and I was looking at the sister battle kit and I always do this thing now when like a new
1:07:16
kick comes out I'll try and hold my opinion of like is it kit bashable or not and I got this about I built up a
1:07:21
squad as it kind of was intended from the set and that was like my first Squad of Infantry and I was like oh actually
1:07:27
those arms are all very interchangeable although his head they're all very interchangeable um that weapon from that kick that oh
1:07:33
yeah so the seraphim stuff fits with them and the retributor stuff fits with them yeah they're
1:07:39
actually a lot more water park than I realized um but like from a post point of view oppose is a pose right so like you say
1:07:45
that that guy's running from a distance it's going to be a running person anyway and I think you can cut your torso I
1:07:51
think some of the new poses like like one of my personal favorites yet it's very specific to look at but I love
1:07:57
um jumping through boss lieutenants I think it's a great yeah yeah anything and he wouldn't have existed no 15 years
1:08:03
ago well this is the thing as well are you touching it with with the um sisters of battle yeah there were probably some of the
1:08:09
kids like the old Acadian kit yeah that was you could twist it around the floor so you could the old Spaceman kit you
1:08:15
could twist around the Torso as well but then a lot of the other kits in the range of metal yeah and you couldn't do anything with them like the old saw
1:08:21
Brethren yeah they were just solid metal chunks that that was the pose that you had you had the pose you had the arms
1:08:27
and that was it you could maybe mix and match the arms a little bit but now the norm the new ones you can swap the arms out you can swap the heads out you can
1:08:33
do a lot more with them because they're in plastic now than you could do so whilst we may have lost a little bit of waste movement and I think people look
1:08:41
at war cry and say oh these aren't multi-part models and things like that and it yeah you can do it it's a little
1:08:48
bit trickier but it's not impossible um I've done it with with Cipher Lords and all sorts of stuff and and there's a
1:08:54
lot that you can do with those kits if you just don't follow the instructions and that's the
1:08:59
thing people look at the instructions like oh well you can't pose it yeah you can't yeah you can yeah it might go beyond a little bit if I add one whinge
1:09:05
about Dynamic Miniatures is that I think especially because of the Space Marine Army I built
1:09:11
for my son is wherever possible I will use as much of the upgrade screws as it can get my hands on is generic captains
1:09:19
and that thing sometimes are thinking he's great but I've got to carve that shoulder pad out to get the the one with
1:09:26
the with the nice black Temple across I've got it and I sometimes I think I know you carve them up as best as they
1:09:32
can to make them fit and and you know and I love how many bits and Bobs there is now on kits but I sometimes think I
1:09:39
wish you could have just done I wish the shoulder pad wasn't yeah stuck halfway onto that Cape or I wish it wasn't because you think just to be able to
1:09:46
just you know you're selling me beautiful Captain shoulder pads for black Templars and then and you can put
1:09:51
everything meant to go on yeah you know and something so other than that but I generally think a lot of the new stuff I
1:09:56
think is just yeah I think it's so nice to look at within range as well they are it says everything we've insisted about
1:10:01
that of the same fitting uh everything within dracary has the same fitting there was a time like I remember when I was doing a higher farming so this is
1:10:08
the older kids they all have different yeah so the white lions and the Phoenix guard and whatever all had different
1:10:14
head joints and arm joints so this is that that was really annoying and I think necomunder suffers from that a
1:10:20
little bit so like the dalak versus the ashes versus the goliaths they're all very different builds yeah so it would
1:10:25
have been this nice if they're in as a range of stuff they all had the same kind of fittings but that's that's but
1:10:31
it's just being really picky about I suppose the problem being this isn't it with the necromon that is sometimes half
1:10:37
half of their their trait is their size isn't it yeah there's another one but I
1:10:43
think there was also different sculptors trying different things well I remember we talked about this before the fact that you know as you'll have seen the
1:10:50
lack on the kit have a separate neck to head yeah but then if you buy the the Forge World
1:10:55
um they've got a neck yeah just put it together I mean for those guys I
1:11:01
actually for yours I had to use the neck and then um trim down the head just to fit onto
1:11:07
the neck and then um yours I think it is does have a van saw a head Advance our neck yeah then I've
1:11:13
trimmed down the head yeah to work with that um yeah and his his satellite most of the work I had to do with these was I
1:11:19
was cutting necks yeah getting the heads to work so yeah he's got a flabby neck yeah you're can't quite fit in his
1:11:26
helmet um I like to use the death Court Creek yeah uh mums I know there was a little bit of cutting involved because
1:11:31
the the stuff that was probably yes yeah but I know from like doing some kick bashing with with Imperial Guard stuff
1:11:36
that they are fairly interchangeable um but like if you didn't someone's gonna touch on his life if you're doing
1:11:42
a kill team then you want to go to those levels of making like 10 figures feel like very unique and stuff so go into
1:11:48
those lengths uh would be quite nice but yeah for the most part you're right to say or you could just use the Alaskan
1:11:53
choose the basic homes yeah it's just a different option if people want to have maybe like a veteran Squad and they want
1:11:58
some way of differentiating that you put different arms on it um but yeah all the new Canadian stuff's
1:12:04
really nice because it's changed one I think as far as I can remember that the new kill teams that have come out for
1:12:09
the the rbts and the the breaches and stuff that you can mix and match to a
1:12:14
degree with those yeah yeah um but yeah it's nice that I do feel like
1:12:19
um I think you've mentioned that Jeff about one of the things I think was the biggest loss when we moved to primaries was we lost a lot of that
1:12:26
chapter specific Flair yeah and then it it kind of came back in a little upgrade sprues but it wasn't an awful lot there
1:12:33
no not a lot it was good for my channel because I could tell everyone how to do it
1:12:38
but then when I when I actually but temples came out they're like okay we're doing an upgrade kit we're doing
1:12:43
actual specific units and stuff so I mean if we see the blood angels and uh um Dark Angels
1:12:49
go that way and I think the thing that was lovely about the blacktan plus one which is yeah you can just still use it what you
1:12:56
want to but I love the fact that and I know this might be a thing now where it'll disappear in 10th but was um
1:13:02
that the the black Templar screws the um the relics that were in the book were
1:13:09
actually on the upgrades Spruce on schools on chains and a particular
1:13:14
looking swords the fact that they literally had a rule which was lovely so I was actually
1:13:20
really annoyed by that
1:13:26
foreign no I was annoyed by that because I actually had an idea because I remember the old black I used to collect black Templars before when they had the
1:13:32
old like kits and I was like okay I remember them having those because I had the best game that I had was a um I
1:13:40
can't remember if it was a commander or an empress Champion something like that had the The Holy Hand Grenade that's right yeah and he killed the carnifex
1:13:47
with it like he was like down to his like he'd been like in combat and managed to kill it and we came with this narrative that he basically did like a
1:13:52
power slide underneath it with a sword and then threw the grenade inside as he went past and he brought behind my cool
1:13:58
guys don't look at explosions I was like okay well I remember so I really remember all those like relics and artifacts like it I can do this and I
1:14:05
can do a kit bashing show people how to represent these on the kit and they're like oh we've made a kit that comes to them
1:14:12
away yeah yeah start on the questions there I think well I've got I've got one
1:14:18
last question for myself and then and then um yeah we've been an hour so you
1:14:23
know what we did we had a little chat beforehand and said we're terrible at promoting our patreon let's talk about
1:14:28
the giveaway for this month and then we just forgot to do it he's happy to be Debbie megito
1:14:36
uh or do your question then we'll yeah yeah amazing so um Games Workshop recently had
1:14:44
um and I'm not going to ask like for your opinion either way um unless you wanted to be like yes strong opinion
1:14:50
um with their painting videos and they they went to the the only hands yeah method of presenting
1:14:57
um and and there was a like a bit of outcry from the community or backlash against it
1:15:03
because it used to be presented now it's sort of a pair of hands and
1:15:09
on some people saying this is really bad we don't like it it needs to be like more personal and you know you want to
1:15:14
see a face and you learn better um but then you've been very successful
1:15:21
um with being a pair of hands yeah um and is is that was that a conscious decision that that's what you want to do
1:15:27
are you like did you not really want to appear like your face in the videos
1:15:33
um it's it's it came about pure lazy laziness really it's basically didn't
1:15:38
want because I had one camera yep and I didn't want to reset that up to do a piece of camera and then reset it up to
1:15:45
my painting thing and time yeah I'll just do it on the I'll just do with my hands so that's kind of how it came about and I thought well people seem to
1:15:51
enjoy this and just kind of carried on with it yeah but I think in terms of that obviously I've had a few people
1:15:56
asking me because I do have uh in that groups and people have said about oh what you think of it I think
1:16:03
because I've seen lots of reasons and you guys have spoken about it in the past and I think it's one of those situations where I don't think it's
1:16:09
necessarily been done to protect the people because if they wanted to I'm sure they could do it if they wanted to
1:16:14
mine's mine's a choice but not through like I don't want people knowing my face otherwise we've just been sat black yeah
1:16:20
all right I'll put the blue film so it's not even like I'm worried that
1:16:27
like people know what I look like or anything like that it's just it's just more of just that's the way it is and maybe in the future I will decide to put
1:16:32
my face in the videos a little bit more yeah um but I think it should be if it isn't a down to whether or not people
1:16:38
are comfortable with that or not that should be their decision and I don't necessarily think that's the reason but I don't know enough about it personally
1:16:43
just an opinion yeah that's cool I I think you're a spot on I appreciate um that you're like I'm just lazy
1:16:50
if I these these lights stay exactly where they are all the time
1:16:55
um because I know that if I had to put that up every time I want to use it I just wouldn't bother yeah like I'm a
1:17:02
lazy filmmaker I did I did something um before I left to join Pat and I was
1:17:07
like having a because I knew I was going to go uh from workshop and I was like how do I get about doing filming I've not done this before for myself
1:17:13
obviously I've used the cameras and I've seen editing and stuff like that so I've got an app I was talking to some friends and they suggested some good apps for
1:17:19
editing and stuff and I literally painted a clone trooper 41st elite
1:17:24
course so they're in the camo right because she came out style so I literally just had my phone on a tripod
1:17:30
sat there and just painted the stage at a time and I set it so it was always in the same kind of place I was like do the
1:17:36
stage to that stage but I didn't have a second camera for palette and I know you're gonna hate me for this so I did
1:17:42
separate palette shots then edited them in because I only had the one camera that's what I do now yeah
1:17:48
I know like from like I just slide the power in yeah just do this do the palette and slide it back in yeah
1:17:59
because at the time I was like I was still working for Workshop I was like maybe I should just post this and see
1:18:04
how well it does and I sent you and you're like what platform is this for because I'd had the orientation of my
1:18:10
phone the wrong way around I should have done it this way around so it was more like for tick tock as opposed to YouTube yeah so a few things I was tweaking on
1:18:16
but I could totally appreciate your point of view just going it's too much hassle yeah I think like when you had um
1:18:23
when you had Dave on and like it's like filmmaking is like amazing oh yeah it's
1:18:28
like Drop pod yes I haven't watched that yet the intro for that is just great and I'm just watching thinking this is like
1:18:34
a hobby video I mean it's like yeah yeah and it's really good and so so I can
1:18:40
tell that he like obviously really enjoys making those videos he really enjoys that process and for me I'm not a
1:18:45
filmmaker um more of a I see myself more as a teacher than a filmmaker so for me I the the videos are
1:18:52
just a medium to get the lessons that I want to teach out to people yeah um so for me it's kind of like a case of well
1:18:59
if I've got two dials and two like sliders I can do I can either put most effort into doing the video and doing
1:19:05
the tutorial and making it look fancy and everything that more interesting or I can kind of spend more time on making
1:19:12
sure the script is clear making sure that the um the build that I'm doing is interesting things like that and
1:19:18
would it just be me I do all my own editing everything like that so I have to kind of balance that out and make sure that what I'm putting the effort in
1:19:25
is the best and for me it's just I I prefer doing yeah the uh the actual
1:19:30
filming of stuff rather than editing yeah yeah editing can um you know so
1:19:37
yeah yeah just a sort of slow just have yeah flashbacks of editing screens and all that sort of stuff yeah but the
1:19:43
Warhammer stuff um I find a lot more creative than say like because I've crikey 350
1:19:50
weddings now something like that it's a lot um and you see two people get married and and you're like oh yeah cool another
1:19:56
one that's found their soulmate um um and and like just a bit like I
1:20:03
think just for two years yeah just a bit desensitized to it now I think I think
1:20:08
um and and that kind of thing or from from like a because I don't know them
1:20:13
um like I'm filming a friend's wedding uh next week in in France uh which would
1:20:19
be good fun but because I know them I think it will be quite interesting yeah um and I'm excited to see if it'll be a
1:20:25
bit different but anyway this isn't a conversation about that yeah I was going to talk about what we've got to give away go on so we've got April coming up
1:20:32
uh so if you uh want to join the channel uh go join us on patreon uh we're gonna be put into giveaway there's gonna be a
1:20:38
question and they'll there'll be four options of answer which we'll deliver in a minute too but first of all
1:20:46
I did say a really rubbish joke before we went live I'm not going to say it now because it was rubbish but yeah Morgan
1:20:52
Ross this was another thing I don't know I was just thinking yeah
1:20:57
when elder were getting released and they hadn't announced him and I was like oh I can make I can make like a new like
1:21:03
Phoenix laws and then they release something great another idea scratch that's something I've not done so you
1:21:08
know there is yeah so I think I still need to go back to that you could do this Pete and then we have a nemesis
1:21:14
Dreadnought thank you Debbie McGee it's very good uh mozzarog scragbad I can't
1:21:20
even say anything I think he builty videos or anything yeah you can build a couple of options yeah and then or 12 of
1:21:27
them if you beat so these will all be individuals they're like Army so you know you might
1:21:33
get this you might get that you might get that you might get a joy toy blood Angel intercessor oh look at that bad boy with Chris Peach's head
1:21:40
or close to it fully shaved uh so that's an option you can sit hours playing with
1:21:45
action figures and who doesn't want to do that and then we have kilty morick as well oh wow it could all be in a chance
1:21:51
I've got that one that's a really good kick that one I like that the blooded are amazing the scene is amazing I'm not
1:21:57
massively as by the Marines because the Marines are Marine to me I've seen them yeah but you've got him to be fair with there's a few more little specialists in
1:22:03
that one and the the little add-on bitter kits for it so the one with the the Davin
1:22:12
I like the one that's the one who looks like he's doing something there's one who looks like he's tweaking the side of his sights okay which I quite like he's
1:22:19
got going over and he's sort of like he's he's adjusting something that looks pretty because the Marksman Marksman what's that nice yeah so cool go back to
1:22:26
the giveaway if you join our patreon uh anything it doesn't matter all you need to do is answer the following question
1:22:32
what is Pete the wargamer's first name is it a Steve
1:22:37
B Stevo C Stephen or D Pete
1:22:42
and if you put your answer in there because we'll put post up uh if you put your answer in there then you'll be in
1:22:47
for a prior or potentially in for the draw for the price so yes so uh Steve moving on to uh
1:23:08
so many different sleeves um wonderful so uh yeah we have a ton of questions
1:23:14
um from our patrons I I doubt we'll get through them all so some of them are quite similar though so I think um yeah
1:23:20
so one you'll be answering about five I think marvelous marvelous marvelous okay so um the line got released recently and
1:23:27
I saw um a community post on YouTube from yourself saying Phil Grimm was it Phil
1:23:33
yeah I just posted a picture I'm going to convert into contract
1:23:40
um so potentially tying into that um like how do you go about planning and conversion
1:23:46
um so there's usually two ways so the the line model was like so I kind of
1:23:51
seen one of them is like working my way from an idea and the other one's working my way back from a model so with comrade
1:23:57
it was kind of a I saw sorry the lion model I saw that I was like what can I turn that model into I want to turn into
1:24:03
something that's really the Primark models like give you a lot of options and stuff like that what I looked at his
1:24:08
arm and what can I use that for and then I thought I can probably get something quite similar to conrockers going in there
1:24:14
other times it's more of a either get inspired by a piece of law a
1:24:20
piece of art be it in like a codex or just random completely unrelated to Warhammer because I get a like collecting art books from like when
1:24:27
games are released and things like that and they've always got really interesting stuff so I'll often go through that I'll get an idea and then
1:24:33
I'll try and work out which kits I need to actually to build that idea and that's kind of an initiative process sometimes I'll
1:24:39
realize I can't really build it very easily out of the kits that I've got so get scrapped or might come back to it later for new kids gets released and
1:24:46
then I just once I'm happy with what I've got I'll literally it looks a bit weird if you kind of come
1:24:53
to mind because I've sat on my floor my office just surrounded by like almost like a pentagram of sprues and if anyone
1:24:58
comes in just thinking I might try and like place for ideas but I'm just literally sound the middle I'm just kind
1:25:03
of getting a spoon looking okay is that is that kit going to work with that kit is that part gonna be the right size things like that so I often do that and
1:25:12
that's from there I stopped building it and hopefully sometimes it doesn't always work out once we've started building and I kind of have to scrap it
1:25:18
but from there it gets meaningful videos I thought you can have a great carpet cut everything out and sprinkle it and
1:25:23
what you find is how you make it what's this random random Lego head and Shaker
1:25:30
yeah can you also put a shoulder a little um pouch on Conor because it shows
1:25:37
a human skill pouch nice uh do you test the conversions and
1:25:46
painting schemes prior to the videos uh no I just basically try it if it doesn't work then yeah because I I assumed that
1:25:55
the answer would be no because otherwise you'd be like look I've got two anger on conversions yeah like and that would be
1:26:01
that would be a lot of work to to get into that a bit more if there's a color scheme you've never tried before is that
1:26:07
something you test on a random model before doing it or do you just go straight in I probably should do oh you're a ball
1:26:12
the thing is I got to a stage now where most of the time I've I've done some sort of combination so if you ever mind
1:26:19
me have not painted red with another color I've painted red and I've painted another color and I can kind of get a rough idea
1:26:25
um but no sometimes I don't know if it's going to work until the end until halfway through painting them on I'm thinking this isn't working yeah and I
1:26:31
get to the end of the video like it did work in the end which is which is good yeah lucky no skill uh so it's locked
1:26:41
uh if you could create kit bash any character from the 40K Cannon uh who
1:26:46
would it be and why um probably I do quite like kid bashing the
1:26:52
old characters that stuff haven't been made into like plastic to like card or dragos pump someone keeps I think every
1:26:58
day someone's like it's doing like day 17 of asking for a kill oh yeah yeah
1:27:03
um so I probably will have to get some around doing that at some point but I think I would like to do the emperor at some point like yeah but then I can know
1:27:09
as soon as I do that games which are going to ask whatever at least in the Emperor as a model so yeah so yeah maybe
1:27:15
I should do maybe people should pay me to kick bash the emperor so he gets released as an official model yeah
1:27:21
really annoying Games Workshop and just literally do the a husk of a body yeah
1:27:28
that's not the model yeah I guess it's quite good because you the you could use a sword from Gilman you can use the
1:27:34
shield from The Lion and then yeah yeah just just wait until the primarks are released and they all have bits of stuff
1:27:41
yeah from the empress
1:27:50
um how do you approach kit bashing an army compared to a single model
1:27:57
are the approaches different so I think it depends they both tie into each other
1:28:03
quite well because I was saying I've seen earlier if you want to build like an army and you want to keep Russian army then if you want to kick back to
1:28:09
every single model there's obviously going to be a lot more expensive a lot more time consuming but you can do an awful lot just by focusing on unit leaders yeah and characters and stuff
1:28:15
like that um so if you keep asking a character you can go a bit more all out because that's going to be like one of maybe three or
1:28:22
four characters you've got on your four Spin and what you collected but if you're building units you've got to be a little bit more sparing although it's
1:28:28
going to cost a lot you're never going to get built because you're constantly bashing so that's probably the difference
1:28:34
yeah between the two excellent um would you ever consider doing a video
1:28:40
of a conversion with just the pieces left over from other conversions
1:28:46
well technically because I buy the whole kits yeah all the pieces that I use are left over from other conversions but I
1:28:52
think what they mean is like if I just bought the kits like that I could use a torso from the ultra Moon yeah the
1:28:58
singular from um I haven't no but I have used compart parts from that I've used in
1:29:04
previous kits yeah uh have there been a uh have you had a conversion idea which
1:29:10
has just been too expensive to justify
1:29:16
uh no probably too expensive to be sensible but not too expensive to justify um
1:29:22
because I think if usually when I've had an idea it's normally like something with iron grinder for example that's quite obviously a big kit and it's
1:29:29
oh it's an expensive kit to go wrong if you need to like replace something in there yeah um but I always find that if I go into
1:29:36
it with enough planning then it's often Justified because people are going to find it interesting as well
1:29:41
um but yeah maybe something like if I just kick bash like a full scale night Titan or something like that yeah yeah
1:29:47
yeah also you probably get a lot of kick bashing questions so what brushes do you use
1:29:52
um I use artist Opus brushes yeah yeah I'm currently on them as well I really like them number three it's my favorite
1:30:00
three actually yeah it's still an army painting two and three yeah yeah I've I've got a break a break out of two yeah
1:30:07
I find like the triple zeros and stuff I really struggle to use because I'm just crap
1:30:12
um but I've got to be honest since we got we all got an army painter Mega brush each set each didn't we and I've
1:30:17
got to be honest I I live in that a lot more than I do the island yeah if it's something where I
1:30:23
know it's going to look look really as crisp is going to do it I'll go into the art of Soopers but I am
1:30:28
that Army painter character brush massive fun of that yeah just the right size that it can do a
1:30:36
little bit of everything I tried using the regiment brush to do a lot of the layering yeah yeah the original brush is pretty good I used to use the regiment
1:30:42
in the character yeah I found the regiment monster too desperately when I would go using that
1:30:48
psycho on a set on a pair device yeah yeah and there's the uh
1:30:53
yeah we have in the details because definitely character in detail I love me painting and then those dry brushes
1:31:04
in my headphones sorry about that how's your ears uh Gone yes cool no it's fine
1:31:10
uh okay lovely uh what's your favorite conversion that you've done and what's
1:31:16
your favorite conversion that someone else has done um I suppose these are kind of linked because I did my big necrophax class
1:31:23
this is probably my favorite one because it was like the most scratch built model that I built because I just wanted to have skaven Wall machines and brew and
1:31:30
the I didn't chips was probably my favorite one and then there's a guy on Instagram called Luke mockridge and he
1:31:37
does a lot of like really he's done depth guard so like death guard but I've seen them they're so good yeah they're
1:31:44
all based around a bit like the idea of old like you know like old-fashioned 1930s deep sea divers with the big brass
1:31:50
helmet thing going on they're all a bit like that aren't they they're very corroded and yeah they're lovely as a death card player I really appreciate
1:31:56
them and uh yeah so he's got a really great way of doing Barnacles and he
1:32:02
basically got like a rivet mold for doing rivets and little square rivets on there like well hexagonal ones and he
1:32:07
basically does those and then chops the tip off these are little Barnacles so yeah so I followed that video up with a
1:32:13
rotting Leviathan which is like a big crab version of it and I used I spoke to him ask him what he did and then used it
1:32:19
so yeah I think necrovokes classes for me and probably the mock ridge's stuff awesome yeah a question from Tony here I
1:32:27
feel that everyone is dodging around the elephant in the room bacon butties ketchup or brown sauce yeah true yes
1:32:32
ketchup oh oh but if it's sausage I've had a sausage
1:32:38
sandwich then it'll be brown sauce or secondary question ketchup in the cupboard or in the fridge
1:32:44
um mine's in the fridge yeah it just saved because I used to keep them in the in the cupboard like still in a cool to
1:32:50
my place but then they start saying refrigerate and consume with so many days behind ketchup out of the fridge yeah I know it's weird because you're
1:32:56
putting some very cold on something very hot but strangely wax and they even asked me but um it's not I just want to
1:33:02
Chuck it in there because I'm normally a brown sauce guy on bacon carbs and sausage carbs but I've recently got the mustard from Ikea
1:33:10
on the sausage Cup last night then oh my God but the problem with tomato tomato
1:33:15
sauce is you don't get that lovely rattle on the tongue that you get with a cup of tea once you've had brown sauce all the spices just slightly reactivated
1:33:22
oh right yeah which I think is the is a bit special interesting but yeah you're
1:33:27
right about sausage carbs I'm gonna I'm gonna keep an air of mystery around me and not answer them
1:33:36
I like to feel it going through my nose
1:33:43
I don't know why I give you that voice
1:33:48
okay um who's your favorite miniature manufacturer
1:33:54
um I'd say the obvious answer is going to be games workshops I'm not going to say that um I really like War Games Atlantic
1:34:01
stuff at the moment they do not that's like um plastic kits are doing like historical stuff but they're also doing their own like sci-fi range as well
1:34:07
remember what they they've some of their ranges um so they did the the
1:34:13
the spout grognores was like granaras and greniere yeah um they're like the French kind of sci-fi themed ones and
1:34:21
they've done like then bear skins and stuff like that um but they do a Napoleonic range as well yeah it's like some really nice
1:34:26
stuff and do some English Riflemen and they do some impression but they do an army build a step so like the the models
1:34:33
are like really basic they're really nicely printed but they're just in a single piece and you stick a head on them yeah so it's now if you want to
1:34:38
build like a full regiment really quick I've never seen a kit that comes with so many heads yeah oh yeah tons of heads
1:34:44
and stuff the best skin guys I'm not gonna pronounce that the best skin guys I don't know how many you're making the
1:34:49
kitties you make about 25 or something it comes about 106 heads because it's those bear skin with a face bear skin
1:34:55
with a gas mask yeah Cape with a face Cape with a gas mask first world war the Asian helmets Yeah
1:35:02
Yeah Yeah so I used to do some buttering conversions my uh my my um my mate Tim
1:35:08
he um he generally uh makes them and then puts them on um scattering like
1:35:14
yeah good so they've got that and those sort of weird sort of them as this weird cyborg thing and they basically do their
1:35:19
own steel Legion as well don't they which are really nice as well you did you did someone with a better skin in
1:35:25
one of the options for firstborn and he used their heads
1:35:30
for do that uh because I was trying to work out where that head was from so the first one I looked I was like is that one of the Victor tricks ones but no
1:35:36
okay they've also done a um they've partnered with reptilino we've ordered a release plastic kit of called space now
1:35:42
but it's like plastic attachments or questions and uh my models are on the
1:35:47
front of that box I painted some models for the Box yeah so that's one of my favorite because awesome because I've got some photos on there
1:35:53
nice uh why dead animal bits where did it come from ah I don't I kept saying it
1:35:59
it came about because I would just say oh I'm just gonna stick some like dead animal bits and they just had a little
1:36:05
extra detail and just said it quite a few times and people started saying where the dead animal bits going or I'd
1:36:11
say dead animal if it's in like a different way I've got some like some bow and see if I was going to put those on and people would miss it so it just
1:36:16
became yeah well you do it in schools as well don't you when you say dead animal basically yes I do for everything yeah I
1:36:21
mean racing as well now isn't it uh well it used to be yeah and I forgot to put it in a few times
1:36:30
yeah it got to the point though where everything's just five or four so yeah
1:36:35
with peaches yellows rating there's a thing of Wonder as well that's a weird
1:36:40
rating system that was a fun day in the office um if tyranids are potentially on the
1:36:45
horizon uh this was asked yeah before the the uh adepticon release I guess because they are
1:36:51
um do you have any kick brush ideas for new big grubly monsters so the problem
1:36:57
with that I find with a lot of the xenos factions is you've got a lot of customizations that are option for you
1:37:03
for like the human factions it's always just been the case but tearing it to kind of the outlier there because you
1:37:09
can just do anything there's a guy called modern synthesis on Instagram who does some amazing like kitties there's
1:37:16
so much tyranid kit bashes and I'd love to do more like different like my own genus types and stuff like that
1:37:23
um but they're quite easy if you can do sculpting and you don't mind like chopping up the armpits and carapaces
1:37:28
from other tuna kits they're all very usable together with a little bit of work and you can some really interesting stuff because they're organic you don't
1:37:34
have to have stuff matching because this arm's gonna match up with this arm and you can just stick some small arms on it
1:37:40
oh yeah because you have like one ordinary arm another arm that's like about nine tentacles so it doesn't matter they're quite forgiving I think
1:37:46
though I would say they're probably easy to keep bash and Orcs anyway yeah because yeah we're all
1:37:52
talking about scrapping or looks and you can make anything okay I mean that's an interesting point of view yeah uh what
1:37:58
was your most I'm not sure if we covered this or not what was your most challenging conversion
1:38:04
that was going to be one of my questions and I forgot so the necroflex Colossus was difficult
1:38:09
because it involved scraping down a lot of sprues just like
1:38:14
cutting off the tabs and like make them into like rods and it took a long time to do that and get everything I basically
1:38:20
took all the kits I took the skaven weapons teams like the the scrap launches things and I I would
1:38:27
basically cut out the wooden planks from them because they come in like A-frames so I cut off them and clean those up and
1:38:33
then reassembled everything which was quite difficult so it took ages I didn't have a Dremel at the time and I do now and it's much easier that would have
1:38:39
been much easier so it's probably more interesting Goblin Town yeah I did think about doing that actually but there's a
1:38:45
lot of Bones there's a lot of dead animal bits well that's the reason why I didn't do it because I just remembered actually yeah there's
1:38:52
so much bone and like rags and stuff on things terrible I do normally this is why you do kit rash it more than me
1:38:59
a couple of people had a similar question um which was is there a miniature or
1:39:05
sculpt that you think is perfect and wouldn't convert I would say that the the Primark series
1:39:11
The the horror series the product series was pretty good like the new Horus ascendant is really nice yeah yeah I
1:39:17
really like that yeah so we'll go yeah wonderful that's the answer I'm just eyeing up this battery it's got four
1:39:24
percent left have you considered narrating audiobooks uh no I've got some good ASMR that's for
1:39:32
sure without this thing because I I like going back to us anyway when I'm building making the videos the scripting
1:39:37
the voiceover and the editing is like my least favorite bits so I just kind of like I'm sitting down and doing voiceovers and today and I'm getting
1:39:43
more done because it was quite funny wasn't it was when you the first time a lot of people will have seen you was on the Horus heresy interviews and there
1:39:50
was a lot of people who were surprised by the voice of them of the voice in the face wasn't he I
1:39:55
seen that come up in in comments quite a lot yeah yeah I don't know what people are expecting it because I think they
1:40:00
were expecting someone older yeah I expect it to be like a little bit older yeah bold like me
1:40:08
did you hear a voice and go that sounds like a boy
1:40:14
yeah yeah you can tell you could tell
1:40:19
I'm gonna listen to all my clients that were coming for a head shaves if their voice changes after the bad one
1:40:29
I think regardless of of what people look like I think you um I remember watching oh who was there was a a guy
1:40:36
who did science like documentaries on the BBC like ages ago and he had the most amazing mustache
1:40:42
um it was like child of our time oh yeah um but they they did one where they um
1:40:48
somebody was doing a voiceover and there was a guy with a really deep voice and they asked all of these they asked all
1:40:54
these women what they thought this man would look like and it would everybody was got it like completely wrong because
1:41:00
it was like what do I want him to look like yeah um rather than that so I think when when it's like the voice and the voice and
1:41:06
then you're just like that wasn't my mental image I am Shook at the biggest one thing is Alex Doddy uh when he did
1:41:13
Kill team yeah and his voice did not match his face at all because he's got like that nice little hairstyle he's a
1:41:18
very like attractive man with a nice beard and supply and his voice is very deep in the heart yeah
1:41:26
it didn't match but when you talk to him because we've played a couple of Warcraft games before I left he just took talks normally doesn't yeah he's
1:41:34
got a voice two percent left oh wow yeah it's going down really quick hour of 45 minutes
1:41:40
we're going to I don't know how we got to two hours with my kid the other day so uh quickfire ones before we have to
1:41:45
go how many times have you glued your fingers together not very often disease passively
1:41:50
yeah uh what paint tastes the best uh Vallejo
1:41:56
yeah it's got a little like a lemony Tang to it yeah Spanish you know yeah
1:42:02
oh they're quite bitter contrast the worst yeah yeah oh it's great yeah oh
1:42:08
you said that uh gold from AKA didn't taste right tasted horrid I thought I was gonna die did you stay up until 3am
1:42:14
to watch the Warhammer reveal no that's what I call her I did it all the time lovely and
1:42:21
um oh someone just saying uh I loved the Acadian castellan conversion that you
1:42:28
did I'm gonna give it a go myself thank you for the video you made it very easy to follow cool so there we go that was
1:42:34
the auxiliary wasn't it yes yeah yeah I'll wait until it gives me the orange warning yeah and says what are you doing
1:42:41
you should really turn it off now and then I'll hit stop because then otherwise we might lose all that video
1:42:48
terrible well thank you very much for going on thank you really appreciate it quite nervous about showing my Facebook then Jeff was our hair and makeup
